  • Who is the REAL patriot?

"They wrote the constitution in blood. They meant it. These guys weren't joking around. It's not some old piece of paper - it's a constitution. Snowden said 'I pledge my loyalty to the constitution, not to the NSA'. The NSA has its own set of laws and Snowden broke those laws, but he never broke his oath to that constitution, and many of the courts have supported that because they said that the NSA have gone against the constitution, with the illegal eavesdropping and spying of this nature on its own citizens."

    - Oliver Stone. Sept. 2016.

Enjoyed the film. Brave guy, risked everything and didn't bottle it when his life was in danger (maybe still is)

I might go and watch it now mate, wasn't going to bother. Followed the Snowden story from the start, it was like a movie just watching it unfold.

What I find incredible is that despite what Snowden revealed, Governments, our government included, and State agencies, still blithely continue their intrusive, illegal, mass surveillance activities. Mind you, now they've passed the "Snoopers Charter" into 'law', they can look at pretty much all your online and phone activities whenever they choose.

What you say above Stan - quoting Stone - about the constitution and who is the real patriot - is spot on. We're being betrayed by these State agencies, acting under the false pretext of 'protecting' us. They're not protecting us, they're trying to control us and protect themselves, siphoning vast sums of public money while doing so.

It's an excellent film Hubs, well worth watching. Quite a bit comes out that went largely unreported. Snowden himself contributed to it.

Annie Machon is the UK equivalent of Edward Snowden. She does great work along with her former MI6 colleague David Shaylor exposing illegalities within our intelligence services that benefit only them, and which the British public pay a huge price for. A brave director should make a film about her life too. Again, you have to say it's these whistleblowers (who've had their lives turned upside-down) that are actually the TRUE patriots.

Hey, just heard the European Court of Justice has just overturned the Snoopers Charter ability to store all of our online usage data for a year. Yes! Europe still good for things like this!!

Indiscriminate collection of emails is illegal, court rules in response to challenge originally brought by David Davis

Ironically, the challenge to the Snoopers Charter was brought by the Brexit secretary, David Davis!

“General and indiscriminate retention” of emails and electronic communications by governments is illegal, the EU’s highest court has ruled in a judgment that could trigger challenges against the UK’s new Investigatory Powers Act, the so-called snooper’s charter.

Only targeted interception of traffic and location data in order to combat serious crime is justified, according to a long-awaited decision by the European court of justice (ECJ) in Luxembourg.

The finding by came in response to a legal challenge initially brought by the Brexit secretary, David Davis, when he was a backbench MP, and Tom Watson, Labour’s deputy leader, over the legality of GCHQ’s bulk interception of call records and online messages.

Davis and Watson, who were supported by Liberty, the Law Society, the Open Rights Group and Privacy International, had already won a high court victory on the issue, but the government appealed and the case was referred by judges to the ECJ."

The UK is still part of Europe and always has been last time I looked at a map. Just because we don't want to be part of their corrupt elitist club (which is hopefully now collapsing) doesn't mean we still shouldn't be part of a European court. At least that's how it should be :-)

These issues should really be dealt with by the UN anyway, if they could grow some balls.
