Heard this thought-provoking quote tonight by the author Christopher Ryan on the Joe Rogan podcast. Certainly makes sense:
"One theory goes that there aren't a lot of endogenous psychedelic plants in Africa, other than iboga, which is incredibly strong and not available all over the continent; and so they develop complex rhythms to provoke altered states. That's why African rhythms are so complex and native American rhythms are very simple."
