I know it's obvious but we can't break down teams that defend. When better teams turn up and attack, we are more suited.

We need to buck the trend of losing to teams we are expected to beat . We have underperformed at home against the teams around us and below us for several seasons now

They had a good team though. I think our complacency came from fact we knocked out some big clubs on the way to the final (Liverpool won league and FA Cup that year too, we stopped them doing the treble by beating them in semi). I recall Oxford had a relatively simple path to final though. BUT... Aldridge, Houghton, Hebberd were all quality players - we just didn't turn up and they ran rings round us. Very hard to swallow.

Still, that was then. I wouldn't swap our past 40 years with them and I imagine none of our team have ever even heard of the Milk Cup and will focus on keeping our momentum going.

I see this match as the turning point in the season.

If we come out and play like we have the last few games, if players hot of the press like Kolli perform, if we make it happen against Oxford i have every belief that all the work has been worth while, that we'll climb the table and the path we are on is the right one.

Nourry will be forgiven, he may not have got eevery signing right but he will have done enough right to be able to learn from the errors.

Any questions I have over Marti will be answered. He knows what he's doing and it's not been luck against Norwich etc, it's been hard graft. We'll have bad games and there will be wrong decisions on the path, but belief in the process will be restored.

If we falter and lose, if we don't get after it, I think we are going to flirt with relegation all season and questions remain.

It was a terrible day. We have suffered a few in the 38 years since that day, but that was a truly horrible day. For once I had felt really confident about our chances of winning silverware, but then feeling so utterly deflated after the match... It still stings a bit writing about it now.

We must have a good chance tomorrow, but it is just the kind of game we have underperformed in during MC's reign, whilst over-performing against seemingly stronger opposition.

Saw the Plymouth game tonight. Rooney is right up against it there. They look certs for one of the relegation slots.
