Everyone slating Washington's inclusion must be overlooking how completely inept most of the other options have been so far this season. Sylla played against Sheffield United and did absolutely bugger all before being subbed. Smith was then bought on when chasing the game, which was you can only assume an intention to hit him and play off him, yet he had no service at all so completely pointless. Eze looked lively in that game and got his goal, but he wasted others including one guilt edged opportunity when put through by Freeman first half due to a shocking 1st touch taking him away from goal allowing the defender to get goal side.

At least when Washington played in the cup, yes lower level and all that, he got 2 assists and caused problems. What do you think McClaren is picking the team based on....performances since he's been with the squad, and how they work in training not what's gone on before. God knows it hasn't gone well so far so he has little choice but to try all options.
