On the football was less then impressed with Baines he is not up to it in my book and I have no idea how Ashley Cole is not at left back. I said we would live and die down the left and that happened yesterday time and time again they looked to do us down that side. Yes Baines was exposed but so has Cole been in the past and we have never had a new one torn like last night down there. In my view there is no way the ball would have gone in the box for their second had Cole been out there he is the master of getting a block in on holding up play

I actually think we did alright, we didnt disgrace ourselves. The end product was lacking. Johnson and Rooney were extremely poor. Surprised he brought on Lallana and not Lambert for Sturridge at the end. When we're losing and our striker gets injured, bring on our only out and out CF please!

i concur.....the media have ,for years, over hyped rooney who imho is no more than a decent prem league player who plays for a top prem side....put rooney in an average side and he would be be just average......hodgson would do well to drop him and ,risk, the ox n barclay from the start!

Italians could just sit and park the bus, and make the already tiring England players blow themselves out. They were exhausted physically and mentally at the end of that.

First half we put in one of the better performances we've produced in a tournament in years, looked dangerous and fluid, despite carrying a couple of underperformers. I'm not throwing in the towel just because of one brilliantly worked set-piece and a defensive lapse cost us that game.

If we play as positively in the next two games we'll have a great chance to get out of the group.
Ok Deep, I'm naive and your so right. Who's a good boy then...now where'e my rose tinted gone?....

I would be tempted to give Rooney first 45 Thursday but only in his correct position. Play him up top or not at all

There is no way I will allow us to have the p iss taking out of us by the Peoples b loody republic of propaganda. Like you get the funny side when posted at the right time but within minutes of losing first group game smacks to me of someone actually pre planning their comedy sketch on the off chance we got turned over and we duly obliged

Italy could just let us blow ourselves out, which happened about 65 minutes in. Physically wrecked after that.

Younger players did well, old guard were utter sh*te even given the conditions.

Hope they can recover physically and mentally before the Uruguay game, because there were signs of real class in that first half. I just hope that apparently undroppable players, are not quite as undroppable for the next game.
cant argue against one word of that deeps.....spot on!

We may have done well compared to 2 and 4 years ago, but it was still abject. Bar one counter attack where we scored, one near own goal and Rooneys amazing miss, we were typically pointless in midfield, toothless up front and as energetic as a sloth. You can dress it up how you like, but the fact remains we were out-played, out-ran, out-moved and out-scored by an average team.

If some of you lot were excited by that and think we still have a chance in the last two games then good luck to you; i'll rather stick a dildö up my arsè for 90mins.

"Almost impossible to chase the game..."? Well that's it then. As soon as we concede a goal in the second half we may as well walk off then cos to expect our players to comeback from a goal....no chance....deary me. If they had fùcking heart and desire and ran themselves into the ground and all got cramp....oh wait, theh did all get cramp and without even running a lot....we're doomed.

Before the tournament I said our wink links were Welbeck and Rooney, but how Welbeck proved me wrong. He didn't stop running, chasing every ball, closing down, making things happen and as soon as he came of we hit a brick wall, all the creativity had gone in an instant. But Rooney on the other hand proved me right. Shocking from start to finish. Just like every single tournament since 2004, he just looked frustrated and struggled all night.

But all in all despite a 2-1 lose, our all round performance was very good. We look awesome going forward, full of confidence and threat. If we can just tighten up at the back then I think we'll be a match for anyone. I still think we'll do well in this tournament. Both Costa Rica and Uruguay didn't look nothing special, certainly nothing to worry about.

Surprised to see that no one has really mentioned Stevie G he never done an awful lot. No tackles, no penetration going forwards, no creativity not sure what he brought to the party yesterday

Looking at stats more or less 50/50 in possession, more shots then them, more on target and more corners other then the result we done reasonably well

He was a waste of space. Numpty nuts next to him played better and that's a weird thing to stay! Wellbeck was the only player and Henderson to a point who could of got cramp and I would have accepted it, but the others....
