  • just how good was stanley

The soul reason that I support QPR is that I caught a glimpse of stan on tv in the mid `70s and thinking wow I'm going to support that team. But how good was he as I never saw him live and who would you compare him with in todays game

The best one-footed player ever, all left foot.Did some of the most outrageous things with a ball you could wish to see. An absolute privilege to see play live. And he didn't give a flying f*ck about anyone else or what they thought of him. Him and Rodney the best players to ever pull on the hoops shirt by a country mile.

Also remember him on superstars and eagerly waiting to watch him and feeling disappointed with him. with him shooting the table in the pistol event and having a general mare.

Superstars Pistol episode was hilarious - Stan finished last overall.

Understandable when you read he was on the lash with James Hunt all night between day 1 and 2 of the filming. Stanley 'Bowled' home to bed around 5 ish but Hunt sayed out until filming resumed on day 2, then won the event !
          Legends both.

I'd rank Sir Les above Rodney

Stan as they was the man, a wonderful player with skills to match. To compare him with todays stars would be difficult but he was without doubt one of the very best players of his generation.

Stan weren't fit to lace Adel's boots.

Stan was just the most wondeful player to watch. As mentioned above, he was very left footed but it didn't matter as he could do more with one foot than any of today's two footed players could do. Watching him as a teenager made watching Rangers the perfect day out and whilst there is no dispute that he had plenty of poor games and had numerous bouts of laziness, it was never a problem to me because there was magic just round the next corner. I think that is primarily why fans of my generation get a little tired of the Adel love in becuase he cannot turn it on like Stanley did and certainly not often enough.
Adel is a decent Rangers player and the most skilfull we have but he cannot be held in the same esteem as Sir Stanley of the Bowles.
I saw Marsh too but was too young when he was in his pomp to judge if he was better than Stan but from what I remember and from what my Grandad tells me, I am happy with my judgment that Stan is the best we've ever had

Stan was the nuts!! He was so good I named my cat after him

Players that I've seen that were in same mould (skill wise) but not as good as stan I would say are:-
Adel, Johnny Byrne, Roy Wegerlee &...... Ned Zelic these were not as consistant tho (didn't see Rodney)
Thank **ck thats all over with !!! need a holiday!!!
