  • IF we stay up...

and I appreciate the odds are still slightly on us going down wd you be broadly happy with our current squad for next season?

Again I emphasise IF we stay up, I can honestly say this will be the first transfer window I can remember when I hope we don't go crazy and try to rebuild an entire team. Think we desperately need stability, and the last couple of games have been testimony to that with the players finally starting to gel and play as a team. If this season has taught us anything (fans as well as the club) it is that building a successful team is not about going into a supermarket and buying the best individual item on the shelf you can, its about working how it will all go together to make the perfect recipe.

There is an argument we are still light in a few places (possibly another striker as with Zamora's injury record he and Remy need back up) and Clint isn't getting any younger (v well though he has done most of this season, coming back well from his humiliation against Liverpool). Arguably we are also still far from convincing in the centre of midfield, but I would hope players such as Faurlin and Diakite are properly evaluated before they are passed over/ shipped out.

Above all, if we do bring people in I hope the motto will be quality over quantity. We have had layer upon layer of player brought in, often hardly better than the one who is replaced and often with little apparent regard for who we already have for that position. So if I had to choose I wd be really happy if we brought in one (and a max of three) really high quality players.

keep in mind that if we stay up it would mean that in the second half of the season we wd almost certainly have got the results of a top half of the table club.

All this of course makes the very big assumption that we won't be preparing for Millwall away...

I wouldn't want much change. This squad is good enough if used correctly.

Another striker and perhaps ins to replace outs 1 for 1, possibly Derry out, Mackie...???

What Saturday showed me is that Redknapp can put out a very competitive team for this league with the players we have at the moment. I also read that we would be 9th in the table if the season had started from when Redknapp took over, which is quite incredible if you think about it.

Wholesale changes would be the wrong idea but we need 2 or 3 quality additions if we are to really push on. What we really need IMO is young, hungry English players to challenge for 1st team spaces- Townsend for example.

Would like to see another striker .... AJ and BZ are too injury prone....Would also like to see a proper centre half alongside Samba .....would also love to sign andros but don't think spuds will sell .

At the moment we look like a team so I would cut my losses with Tarbs and move him on to the highest bidder

          hmmm... difficult one.

i'd prefer very little change, but, if (and that is an if) the squad is as divided as some people like to make out, then surely some players need to either get on with it or get out. and if they do go, we need to replace with players that are more likely to get us some team spirit. also, one or two players may be getting on a bit and can't be expected to play every week

I think we have a more than capable squad, yes. Just cast minds back to the beginnign of the season; we were all well optimistic, even fans of other clubs were saying how gooda squad they thought we had. Not to mention we have now added Samba & Remy to that squad (not mentioning Townsend as he is a loan and more than likely to return to Spuds).

No 2 ways about it; we have been appaling for a vast majority of this season for whatever reason (a whole different discussion in itself!), but if we can start playing as our potential says we should, as we done against Sunderland, I really do think we have a squad with the ability to be pushing a top half finish - with maybe 1 or 2 additions in the summer. IF we stay up, I really do not want a drastic overhaul again.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

For me in addition to the team we have right now, there is a good case for 1 additional striker, CM and CB. We also need to think about replacements for Townsend and Fabio. I doubt we'll be able to sign them and they have already become important players. On the flip side, adding another 5 different players / personalities, sounds like quite a lot. Tricky.

To be honest, I think we still need a few additions to the squad. Fabio will probably go back, Townsend could be tempted to stay with us,BUT? And Granero, that´s a difficult one; I´m not sure I´am willing to give him another chance to prove he can hack it in this league. Bobby Zamora will need an op. preseason and AJ. seems to be just too injury prone to be succesfull over a long period of time.
A big questionmark has to be put after Cesar´s name aswell. He could very well be off to another adventure, who knows. IMo, he is world class on his day. To summarize, i will claim that we need at least 4 or 5 new players in the squad.
If I am allowed to dream; it would be nice to get Raheem Sterling back and but of all I want us to buy Andros Townsend. At all costs(Ok,almost)actually. On the whole I want us to go for young english players instead of courting bmercenaries from "abroad".

Ps. Do also remember that we have a few talented players on our books already. One of them are the Korean fullback we signed in January.

I agree. If we stay up I think we should bring in a maximum of 3 players. Even if we go down I would prefer we try to keep most of the players, even the ones with high wages. Last Saturday Clint Hill was the only player who wasn't brought in this season. We knew it would take time to gel and hopefully they have.

Also I think it's good we already bought a LB for the future. If we could keep Townsend and Fabio it would be great. They have potential and hunger. They are young and will be settled by the end of the season.

It all depends on which players Harry wants out, get a fee if we can and then better it.

I don't want the club wasting money by paying over the odds, however investing in good young players is very important as well.

If we manage to stay up then would like to see Andros and Fabio back for the season on loan (dont think united or spurs will be looking to sell)

The squad requires a little bit of tinkering with, ie. Derry, Johnson, Mackie, Ferdinand, Cisse moving on, but certainly does not nmeed wholesale changes again.

If Hughes had signed Samba or another similar CB, Remy or similar QPR would not be in the position they find themselves in.

Nearly all of us pointed out on here that these two positions were not filled properly. We all knew Ferdinand was not good enough and that Johnson was a long term injury waiting to happen. These are the two areas that have cost QPR points (too many conceded and not enough scored).

Whilst the midfield might not be the best, Mbia, Diakite, Park, Faurlin, Granero, Derry with Taarabt, Hoilett, SWP and Mackie it was not a bad selection. Had the defenders defended set pieces better and the strikers score som more goals, the above midfield players would not have been a big issue.
