"Imagine a relationship that went wrong but you held on in there for years: that's what it is like supporting a football team. Your loyalty to a team can never die. Ties are stronger than they could ever be with a woman. If she goes and sleeps with your best mate, it's over. If the Rs' boss, Ian Holloway, slept with my best mate, QPR would still be my team. Even if many of the things that you loved about going to matches have gone - terraces, team shirts without sponsors and being able to smoke at grounds - you still stick with your team." - Peter Doherty.
Before the game today I was told the shocking news that a great friend of mine and I am sure many other QPR fans and an avid reader of this site Gary Potter mostly known as Gary the Plumber died this morning aged only 47 after going to hospital with a severe headache which turned out to be something to do with a clot on the brain
His partner of 27 years Sally wanted as many of his friends to know before the game so they could maybe have a pint in his memory but until I spoke with her after the game wanted the news off the internet until their daughter Kirsty had announced it in her own way
Gary was one of those fans who was always there in the dark days of our lower league days and went to every game home and away without fail including all the night away games and Sally and Kirsty still do the same now and I will fully admit I cried when I tried to offer her some kind of words of comfort today
What she asked was that I could try and find out if anyone knew if she could arrange that his ashes were laid on the pitch and if anyone could point us in the right direction then please PM me so I can pass on the info
RIP mate
Speak to the club, we done the same for our mate a few years ago, they'll put you in touch with the club chaplin who was also very helpful. They allowed about 10 of us into the club for a private service, good luck and sorry to all concrned for your loss RIP
A really top bloke who loved the Rangers. Had some great days with him at many away games, especially as Beefy said those dark days when we were in League One. Despite being in that league we had some great away days.
RIP.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.
