Just thought I'd create a thread for players who have received plenty of stick this season but certainly today fully deserve all the praise they receive:


Bosingwa - superb today, so comfortable on the ball, got forward, v solid at the back.

Park - OK so he has been a disappointment to us but worked v hard today, got some good tackles in, distributed it simply and accurately and best of all stayed on his feet.

Townsend - obviously brilliant. Great to see an R running at defenders with pace and getting crosses in. Amazing how effective simple attacking play can be.

Jenas - a lot of fans were sceptical about his signing but has looked solid since he arrived and a cracking goal which should kick start his career at Rs.


SWP - Hoilett had been great first half but was fading. SWP upped the energy and a great cross that led to the killer goal.

Agree with all of that. They were all excellent.

Key for me though was the team woked as a unit and everyone knew what eachother would do, ie if they made the run the ball would come, unless there was a better option and the run used as a decoy to equal effect. No coincidence for me these wins have come without Taarabt or Mackie who hold the ball too long and often never pass or lose it stupidly when others are out of position putting us under risk.

Agree on everything but Park. He ran around plenty and looked busy today but was our least effective player IMO. Maybe he would be better out on the wings but he's poor at CM.

Afraid some always have to have a scapegoat and Park appears to one of those for this season. Played well today, very good positionally, pressed the ball well and linked play with our two wide players.

Least effective? Why do you think that? He clearly had only defensive duties eg, always staying behind when attacking and to always put pressure the other team - which IMO he did well. Thought the team was well balanced. I'm not sure if replacing Park with Granero would yield the same result.

In terms of stats Park did not contribute much at all I agree but I don't think that was his job today. Although, mbia and he had the highest passing success rate in the team.

More importantly HR thought otherwise as well "“I took a gamble by playing Ji-sung Park as one of two in midfield – he usually plays wide or in a three. The two of them [Park and Stephane Mbia] were fantastic."
