By the end of play on Saturday with a quite likely draw between Villa V Reading and Wigan not playing the gap to safety will be 2 pts.

A win against Sunderland gives us momentum and confidence and also has our rivals on edge especially with the run of fixtures we have.

Fail to win and I'd say thats it, the win at Southampton gives us hope, back to back wins gives us a chance. We are never going to get out of this mess without back to back wins the points gap is too big. Back to back wins must come home and away, the next 2 home games on the spin come in May against Newcastle and Arsenal which by then could be too late.

With the chance to leapfrog Villa next week, this is it...the Sunderland game can only be a win nothing less.

If Southampton fail to beat Norwich they could really get dragged with the following two games against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Fail to beat Sunderland and its cutains in my opinion, can't see anyway back after that.

I fully agree. Would go as far as to say that a win at Villa is necessary too. A defeat, with them going further clear and us failing to make further inroads, would be disastrous.

Always had the thought that winning the games against Southampton, Villa, Reading, Sunderland, Wigan and Newcastle would be enough. Just couldn't see it happening on recent performances. The difference in attitude and application against Southampton, if continued, would make it possible.

Just hope they don't raise expectations and fail to deliver when it matters most.

I think everyone should just keep their feet on the ground and don't build this up too much....If we don't win on saturday, (and it seems a ****** long time ago we last beat this lot at LR) this site will be like bedlam with posters literally going mad. We could do with a win obviously.......but don't get too despondent if we don't......... see how other results go, there will be steps forward & back, lets hope there are more forward ones

It's a good opportunity, we haven't won back to back pl games since villa & Bolton dec 95 and as our situation is a bit worse than last year points wise even though the run in is better.

We need to win back do back wins for sure the thought of winning 3 in a row is unthinkable and villa is the typical game we will lose.
