  • The Both - Like him or hate him?

I've said this before, but I think now could be an even better time to bring it up.

We have had many players in our time that we all #### off or believe to just not be good enough.

    - Furlong
    - Helguson

Now, im not saying this based on one game but in actual fact its based on many of his recent appearances.

I think Jay is now settling in, and fighting for his place in the team. And he deserves his chance!!

He has the ability, but IMO he gets lazy. He never has the right mind set. But i think he finally may be coming good for us, just as Zamora isnt fit as well....

Give him the chance, he played a hgue part in both goals this weekend - Offered us a whole new outlet that we so badly need right now. Presence up top!!

He could be our new Helguson etc

Thoughts? Just a new way to look at it...

If we want to get relegated, yes.

We need that presence up front so for me he has to play if Bobby not fit and even if he is fit has earned his place for next week.

I think he could be useful for us in the run in. He's our only fully fit striker at the moment so getting behind him is important.

I agree that at times he comes across very lazy and a bit disinterested and he doesn't bust a gut to get into the box enough, but he can win headers, flicks and hold the ball up and technically is OK. I think with the right management and some confidence he could be a good player in these last few games.

I think he is a confidence player. If HR can make him believe in himself he'll do a good job for us.

Right now he is a whole lot more use to us than Bobby Z. He hasn't done too much wrong in the few games he's played either.

Bothroyd himself doesn't see himself as a target man.
He gets frustrated that people assume thats his best position just because he's tall.

How do I know this ?
He told me ! On a couple of occasions.
He thinks he's better and prefers to play wider. Taking players on with the ball at his feet.
To be fair, I'm not convinced but at least it shows he's willing to adapt for the good of the team.

Actually, I thought he did well on Saturday, but that was as much down to Saints poor centre halfs as it was to Jay.

Maybe 'Arry can get more out of him than Hughes or Warnock did.

I suspect a fit Zamora would start ahead of him, but until then.....

Although I don't really think he is good enough, I have been saying in Zamora's absence he should have been in the side even before the game against Man City. He is a centre forward and as such a better option than the players Redknapp has been selecting i.e. Taarabt and Mackie to fill the role.

I don't think Zamora is really likely to be fit to play much more this season, so Bothroyd should get more games in the side. We will all then have a better knowledge of his capability at this level.

Nothing against him at all. Used to think he was abit of a big time Charlie (and he may well be) but fair play to him, since his return from his loan spell, he hasn't done much wrong. He is never going to be a world beater and bang in 15 goals in a PL season, but he has played well in the few chances he has been given under Arry and, as somebody above mentioned, he is alot more use to us than a Zamora than can barely run.

What I liked about the goal (apart from the obvious) was that when Park crossed the ball, Bothroyd and Remy were around the 6 yard area waiting to pounce, something that has been missing for most of this season.

I thought exactly this myself n all mate. Previously we would have a cross come in only to see Cisse out on the touchline scratching his nose and picking his head, with the whole of the midfield 30 yards behind admiring the weather.

This is the best input you can get, I am one of the few here who doesn't get carried away and can see the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is that Bothroyd couldn't even hack it at Sheff Weds this season, he is sh1te, and only has two dimensions to his game, compare that to Tarbs (who he is keeping out now), who offers so much more.

Anyone who thinks we won because of Bothroyd and Park is totally clueless, we won because of Remy and Hoilett and good luck, but luck does not follow you all the time, you have to make your own luck, and if Bothroyd plays, we will go down and don't then come on here crying because I have already warned people of this.
