Call me cynical but I think such statements can be easily interpreted as blackmail.
As in: "You'll be stuck with me and paying my full wages,
so you'd better let me find another club at my convenience".
Nobody does. But players are known to have put their clubs (and not themselves) in a difficult financial spot due to relegation Proof of player loyalty to me is working their socks off on the pitch. How many of those allegedly committed to stay and fight after relegation have done so this season, when it really matters?

You always know how to put a positive spin on things Krill
Agree Weare Mbia is shocking, i never see him make one tackle on saturday. Regarding the others they are not going to come out now and say were leaving are they, can you imagine the backlash they would get, in the summer they will be gone if relegated.
thought this was another fan related thread..our fans are nor mercenaries, our new koreans and like will be here forever
have, er no doubt....a cold midweek away trip to hartlepool is on their radar for sure.....
they gonna take a pay cut to a Championship wage then? :-)
There will be offers for the likes of Cesar, Samba, Granero (from Spain), Remy, Taarabt, Diakite but if they want to stay it will be the club that wil decide if the offer is to good to turn down.
As for taking a pay cut, I seem to recall that many of Newcastle's players deferred half their pay when they went down.
They had a team meeting and the players were asked who wants to stay and win the Championship and who wants to go? They all stayed apart from Martins, Owen and Bassong.
I hope that this lot not only stay (with a paycut or defer their pay), but have the fight and desire to play and win at places like Barnsley, Sheffield, Hull, Blackpool, Millwall etc. It will offer the best chance of doing what Newcastle and to a lesser extent West Ham (via play-offs) did and bounce straight back up.
