  • Former QPR player Robbie James

I am working on a project about former Wales players and wanted to ask if you could share your memories/ thoughts about a former QPR player called Robbie James.
He played during the plastic pitch days in the 1980s.

I am looking for any information, goals scored, memories, programme features etc.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Thanks.

Never rated him back then tbh and gave him dogs abuse in the 86 cup final (mind you the rest of them never turned up either)

Was okay, not our best player. Was nearing the end of his career but did a job. Think Swansea fans will have better memories. Died in 1998. Aged 40. For those QPR fans who didn't know.

Other Welsh former R's players = Leighton James, Karl Ready, Tony Roberts?, Dave Thomas, Vinnie Jones!, I'm sure there were many others.

Karl Ready used to wear a shirt - not sure "played" is an apt description of what he did.

In fairness, possibly the only "Dave Thomas" who isn't Welsh.

                    he was

he was a superbe player but we had at that time a very tallented team so used to play him at full back his greatestb asset his ability to score goals was never used by qpr but i do remeber him hitting a fab goal from thirty yards into the top right hand corner
i met him several times in real life he was a deep thinker, but he was not a man of many words but with his several times broken nose he looked a very tough sort
not the sort of bloke you engage into conversation in a pub,he gave of that vibe that he just wanted to be left alone I wouldnt like to have seen him lose his temper he had a sort of kirk douglas look
god bless his little heart to die so young and to leave his family

as im the most gifted poet who has ever lived ill write a poem for your book

robbie james , the strong silent type that was robbie james
he will let you joke at his expense but dont call him names
played for qpr but got famous at swanseea played 400 games
he was a caring man who silently plotted his financies how sad it all went up in flames

                        i think

i think another concept to robbie james career at rangers is that if he had played as a goalscoring midfield player which is his natural position,he could have become a cult hero,he was easily capable of scoring 12-14 goals a season
he was in his prime when he was at qpr so all the qpr fans who saw him play as a full back, cant really judge him on what he did at qpr because his greatest asset his ability to score goals was never brought to fruition
but there have been many players at qpr who we sold off with out givem them an adequate chance to prove them selves
im talking about stuart pierce, john barnes, tony currie ,rio ferdinand, dougie freeman etc etc etc most of these players were released as youngsters, but they went onto big clubs to became superstars
its a bit like that with eiphram he will be released but he could go somewhere else and become a superstar................so comming back to robbie james a player who was used as a full back where as he should have been given a goalscoring midfield role

Ted you are without a doubt the worst poet ever to draw breath. That 'poem' absolutely stinks!
