  • Clough Interview - fascinating

We finally find out why Motson is so utterly useless. He's still in shock about this interview.

This is a brilliant interview when Brian Clough was at the top of his game as a manager. I wish managers and players were as candid today. I'd love to see Cloughie as was then, manage us as we are now! Haha. Bosingwa...

I liked what he said about refs. We all hate refs at times, and they can be terrible, but he has a very good point.

I'd be interested in other peoples' thoughts...

A great character and leader. He may not have always been right, but he stuck to his principles and took no prisoners in getting teams to play as he wanted. One manager who really could make a difference.

I would love to have Clough around in my era, sounds like such a great manager, Clough makes me appreciate Mourinho even more as these types of managers are few & far between

I've been saying for years MOTD shouldn't do any talking, just the games. Not sure if anyone else watches Bundesliga on ITV4? But they have a host to welcome you to the show & then just highlights. They show more in an hour then MOTD do in an hour & 45 or whatever it is. I can't stand MOTD
        Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
        And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Quite simply, the best manager of his generation and the best manager England never had.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Glad you guys liked the video. I do sometimes wish there was much less money in football again so any team could genuinely work its way to the top of the league.

Most people on here would have hated Clough as manager. Talk of boozing at QPR under NW....is nothing compared to how Clough allegedly did things, Bullying by NW?...nothing compared to Clough. Can't see many of our fans putting up with a manager punching them for celebrating a win.

Actually just in the middle of reading a biography on Clough. Very interesting on how he worked and what it took to get players to play for him. Not sure how effective it would be know though given the power the players have these days.

Cloughie was a legend - will never ever be anyone like him again in football! As someone has already said, but worth mentioning again...the best manager never to have managed England - The FA were frightened to death of him...!
                      Not even Mourinho comes close!

Did he not give one of our fans a slap for invading the pitch ?

If you haven't read his autobiography, you should - it is a great read for any footy fan. I think there might be more than one but this is the one I read:

Yes, he was a bully, but he was also the greatest English manager of all time. Two European Cups with Nottingham Forest (back when it actually was a competition for Champions, unlike today's b@stardised version where all the rich teams qualify every season) were the glittering jewels in his crown of accomplishments.

There is a great bit in there about a big European Cup tie where Forest's opponents (can't remember who now) were a slick passing team and Cloughie thought a boggy pitch would be much better for Forest. So on the morning of the match the pitch was a quagmire but nobody remembered any rain overnight. Cloughie had got the groundsman to run a hose down to the river Trent and had pumped thousands of gallons of water onto it overnight!

There is also a bit in there about a cup tie with QPR that gives some insight into Cloughie's motivation techniques but I'll let you all seek that bit out for yourselves.

'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. 'My dear Frodo, that is just what the Rangers are: the last remnant in the South of the great people, the Men of West London.' - Lord of the Rings, Book II, Chapter I - Many Meetings.

Good point and i agree don't think he could manage today, he was a bully from what i've read about him. Called QPR a bunch of London poofs, or something similar when his team was struggling to dump us out of a cup.
