  • The 41 Games To Go..Match Report

I'm not getting carried away, as we still have alot to work to do, but it was good to take 3 points away from home. First ten minutes we were excellent and could easily have been 2-0 up, fully deserved our goal from Tarrabt, this came after the keeper came steaming out to Routledge given a free kick outside the box and receiving a yellow card in the first two minutes and good chance that fell to Simpson.

Connolly was winning everything accompanied by an excellent hall, though if we could I would consider putting a bid for Scunthorpe's centre forward Hooper, who is the best striker, I have seen away this season and considering someone like Paterson has done well for Burnley, I think he could be worth a punt.

Anyway, back to the game. We allowed them back into it, though our pace on the break at times was great to watch. Hogan, who has been given his chance, done himself no harm with a fine performance on the left and routledge was nuisance on the right. Faurln was picking his passes and leighterwood was running and winning tackles, though his passing at times was a little woeful. We controlled the first half, but most fans I spoke to at half-time remembered that dreaded Plymouth game, and felt we would succumb to pressure in the second half. The pressure did come, but Connolly with a fully bandaged head was winning everything and we were still hitting them on the break Early impressions of Simpson is that he wants the ball and shows for it, and will unlike our other attackers will make it difficult for defenders. Tarrabt was taken ofrf early in the second half and replaced by Vine. This site sponsored Vine last season, and he was my number 1 choice. Its every sad to see, vine now. His confidence is shattered and he had a great opportunity near the end to kill the game, but hit the ball over from about 6 yards. His pace to beat defenders has gone and in one instance, he gave way and fell over when beating a defender and running into our half. Rumours are that Derby Co wanted to take him on loan and I just hope the more he plays, he can get that swagger back and that bit of pace he is clearly lacking. Not sure why Magilton made the substiutions so early, but Helguson did lookm okay when he came on. The boss, is also sending out a message to Buzsacky, by not playing him that he expects more. Late on Magilton get sent off from the stands after firecely appealing against a possible penalty, when the keeper came out to Routledge. Will, wait to see it on the replay, but gut feeling was that Routledge's second touch was heavy and he was not fouled by the keeper.

All in all, we had a nervous 5 minutes of injury time, but coped with it well. Cerny had to make a good free kick save near the end, but we held on and at last we have a win. Roll on Peterborough United.

Just to add, next 72 hours are going to be very interesting. 2 possibles, still on and one would be a great signing in my opinion. (I can add they are not a left back), its probable that 1 or 2 will also be loaned out and its a matter of watching this space.

Sounds a bit like 2 poor sides though Pete? Is that fair? Would think a play off team would win comfortably at Scunny?

God I hate this saying but..

It's a sign of a good side to play poorly and win (especially away from home)

Vine should have scored, then it would have been comfortable. To be fair, I would like to see us kill the game off, but 3-0 today would have been a fairer result. No disguising Scunthorpe United will struggle this season, but this was much improved from the home match against Accrington Stanley.

You can do no more then win and to me it doesn't matter at this stage if its 1-0 or 4-0, its 3 points.

I thought Vine looked beter today, a bit harsh there.
            Bad miss though.

Borrowdale was a weak link... I'm a bit p***ed off to hear that we aren't after a left back? Are you sure??
The bloke is way below standard... he just doesn't stop crosses. It's painful to watch at times.

We played well today for long spells, but we still lack cohesion, and need to gel as a settled team.

            And Connelly???? Magnificent.
How many clear chances did they create?? None.
And that was down to him. Brilliant, and in his best position. If he doesn't start the next games at CB - I think I'll have a ffit.
            Well done Matty.

Guess papers tomorrow or Monday will have them. Best to keep quiet at this stage, we want to improve the team and I'll only post names when I know they are done and dusted. Its the best way, I don't want no repeats of Ched Evans

Agree we were very bright at the start of the game (as we nearly always are) and this time got our reward. Taraabt took his chance with composure.

I thought vine showed signs of improvement when he came on and was starting to link well sith Sumpson, cant understand why at this point Simpson was taken off as he didnt seem particularly tired and was benefiting by having vine on.

We had enough chances to put the game to bed in the first half but didnt take them, second half we were pretty average especially for the first 20 minutes, what do we say to players at half time that consistently makes them switch off!

Faurlin was fairly neat but seems half a yard of the pace defensively, I am confident he will get much better as the games go by. Conolly was excellent at the back and needed to be as he was kept busy. I like hogan but he is not really effective on the left.

we looked like a fairly solid defensive unit but the rest are at the moment more a bunch of individuals that a unit, I am sure this will improve as the team settles down.

We miss rowlands, leighetwood was not very effective today.

Overall we deserved the three points but we should really be better than a 1 goal difference when you consider the 2 squads but they nullified our advantage in talent by playing more effectively as a team . Good turn out by the rangers especially on a bank holiday weekend and given our current form, fair play to all who turned up.

Mahon gets slated at times but at least he can pass a ball 10 yards to feet (more often then not)
