  • For someone so good why does he deliver so little

    Adel.

Quite possibly the most naturally skillful player in the Premier League but just does not deliver enough.

    1. Finishing, aside from the Fulham game is very poor, the miss against City, Penalty against Norwich have directly cost us 4 points, numerous other
    2. Set play deliver is up there with the worst I have ever seen from a professional footballer.
    3. Fitness. One lung busting run finishes him for the next 20 minutes. Carrying too much weight.

In most people's eyes he has been great this year, but for me to be great you need to deliver results and I'm afraid he just doesn't.

I just hope Adel, our most gifted, most creative player we have, plays in as many of the remaining games as possible.

Was just on SSN. He said:
"It hurt a lot (missing the penalty vs. Norwich). I could not sleep for two or three days. I love this club. Thought I was going to get. And when I failed and then I saw the standings, I felt terrible. Could not sleep. Now my mind is set on giving my all to change the situation and make the goals we need to get through this. I love you so much always"
"When you went to the corner and saw our fans celebrating the way they were you just wanted to be part of it" - Shaun Derry after we beat the scum 1-0

For someone who has consistently been the most productive of all our players over the last three seasons, why does Adel continue to be the focus of some fans' criticism and disdain?

Thought he was well short of his best vs Norwich.

Also someone needs to tell him that Samba is good in the air so a default of floating dead balls in his direction 8 times out of 10 will help the team more than what he was doing.

Better still select a new free kick/corner/penalty taker -Townsend looks good - give him a go for a change.

Seconded . The only thing that lets him down is set pieces .

For me Taarabt reminds me of a young Ronaldo but more hardworking, less clinical and not as good with set pieces.

Taarabt is a great dribbler and his defense splitting passes really make him stand out. For a counter attacking side he is vital and could be even more important if he improve his decision making skills and his finishing. Sometimes he need to pass the ball to his teammates when they have a better goal scoring opportunity.

I think Hughes opted not to play him in the beginning of the season because he had a bad reputation of not working hard for the team. I think he has proven that he can do that and should be, for most games, first name on the team sheet.

Imo only ceasar clearly has been better for us this season.

I can't believe people are still saying stuff like this. Still stuck in 2008.

                          1) His finishing isn't his strong point, sure. He's not perfect at everything, but why should he be?

He took the penalty vs Norwich as he's a very good penalty taker. Has he missed one for us before? Someone said he'd scored 8 from 8 previously. Sometimes even excellent penalty takers will see one missed. There's a reason others in the squad weren't taking them, and its daft to say Adel 'cost us points' by missing.

This is a classic example of the problems with results-based thinking. Adel has a higher expectation of success when taking a penalty than most of the rest of our squad (perhaps more than anyone). When he misses, as he will sometimes, we ought to accept that stuff happens rather than say the wrong person took it.

                          2. Again, so what? He's taking them because the rest of our squad are useless. We could stick SWP on set-pieces and use it as another stick to beat him with if you'd prefer? Or Adel could shirk away from the responsibility. Yes, his set pieces are frustrating, but only because when they work they look so good. Look at that ball vs Norwich that zipped right across their goal in front of hte Loft. If anyone had bothered follow it in we'd all be talking about Adel's great delivery.

                          3. His fitness is much improved, as is his defensive game. Neither are a liability anymore.

                          ------

                          He doesn't deliver results?

Taarabt has the 4th highest 'key passes' (chances created) per game in the Premier League this season.

He is behind only Leighton Baines, Nicky Shorey and David Silva.

Taarabt is joint second at 'accurate through balls per game'
                          , behind only Santi Cazorla.

What more do you want him to do? It's not Adel's fault that Mackie, SWP and co keep missing these chances.

He's scored four times this season, which isn't too bad for a guy playing for the worst team. Have a look at how many midfielders outside of the top 6 sides have scored more than him this season: only Kevin Nolan and Jimmy Kebe.

Adel deserves a far, far better stage. Bring back Tony Scully.

he isn't perfect but creates nearly everything for us. He is an easy target and lots of people don't like flair players because they prefer the traditional "British grafter"...except they are sh1t. He has such utter rubbish around him he is limited by that.

Do you prefer Derry, Mackie, Hoilet, SWP and co? They are truly dreadful and why we are bottom. I am sure plenty will tell me how good Derry is...look forward to it, but he is slow and useless and was missing headers by 4 feet v Norwich.
