There has been a lot of bad press in the papers etc about the board and Tony and what we spend etc but when you look at it closely are we as bad as they are making out or are we just and easy target given our stadium only holds 18k.
Were classed as big spending QPR but are we really?? This is the first transfer window in four that we have actually spent some cash. Yes there has been a high turnover of players but in the main they have been free transfers. What we spent this window on transfer fees probably puts us on a par with our counterparts and what they spent in the build up to the season so why the negative agenda towards us.
We are flogged for paying big wages but again are we or is that a myth?? Im guessing outside the top 5 to 6 teams the average weekly salary is between £40k to £50k. Bosingwa was our top earner with the papers suggesting he was on £80k a week when it turned out it was in fact £65k, his performances aside, £65k for a player who the last 4 years has won the prem, champions leagues is an international and has consistently played for a top three club in this country does not actually seem over the odds.
The board are accused of pandering to agents and throwing silly money about but again the last two windows they have stuck to their guns when faced with unreasonable demands i.e. Dawson wanted silly money we said no and the move never went ahead and yesterday WBA (no doubt believing the hype about our dealings in the paper) tried it on not only wanting £3.5mil for their player but also one of ours on loan and for us to pay his wages!!!! Had we been the push over everyone suggests we would have done the deal but we stood strong. So credit to the board for that and Harry who as good as his word said if a deal is not right he would not go ahead with it as he did not want the owners trousers pulled down.
Who’s board looks better now our’s or WBA?? Well their stance of trying to take the p iss has landed them with a player for 18months that don’t want to be their and a player that if they are honest they don’t want anymore given how he has acted. So their position has cost them a £3.5mil transfer fee, if we assume that Odemwingie is on £30k a week that’s another £2.1mil so they have cost themselves approaching £6mil for a player that don’t want to be their nor they want. But the papers and Sky are praising WBA chairman as great for sticking to his guns when he has just cost his club £6mil quid. I think its out board that should come out with credit from last nights Odemwingie fiasco
Harry said that Samba is not earning as much as the papers are speculating. The consequence of signing free transfers is that paying no transfer fee results in a higher wages its swings and round abouts.
I suppose what I am saying is the hype around our board/club is just that and I don’t think things are half as bad as the press chose to portray. Have we made mistakes yes no doubt we have but I trust Tony and Amit so from one QPR Fan thank you Tony, thank you Amit, Thank you Phil and thank you the other board members.
Were QPR and whatever those outsiders say lets do it our own way
