I mean, last season Jim Magilton was giving 100% of his attention to whether David Norris was better down the middle or wide right, and if Keven Lisbie had the work-rate to compliment Jon Stead in away games, or should Counago play, etc....
Meanwhile we (the fans) are sitting at games, under various managers, and over a period of time realising that Buz is better in the centre, and Agyemang runs around a lot being a pain in the ar*se to defenders, but has the vision and finishing touch of a blind hedgehog... in a bag. And that Mahon and Legs together in midfield has the creativity of Steve Palmers left foot.
And that HH is a busted flush, no matter how good he might look in training. He can only find these things that we all know by watching them in matches, and watching them balls things up.
He's assessing things, and making mistakes along the way - which he will (hopefully) learn from. Every new manager has that problem. We should know.
The reason for all that is the stupid amount of managers we've had that constantly have to start all over again looking at the squad that we know about already, and the sheer number of options he has to weigh up and learn about, because we have too many players who are much of a muchness. Especially in midfield. The most important part of any team.
The solution - for me, is to massively trim down the numbers of players we have for the same positions to avoid the option/need for all the chopping and changing, get a settled and more unified system/team, and let him and Gorman decide who they need, or just as importantly - do not need.
Apart from a good striker and left back, it's far more important that we actually unload players and have a much tighter system/unit, than add to the cluttered mess we already have.
It's causing chaos and probably unrest amongst the squad.
I'm tired now. :waaaht:
