Even though it is now two losses in 5, we still got 7 points.

And this is the big problem I see in playing two defensive midfielders each game. Yes, they will tighten up the defence, but at what cost? We need wins, not draws.
I agree with this. The problem, methinks, is not playing Mbia and Derry; its playing Mbia and Derry with Mackie and SWP......... Neither Mackie nor SWP offer any creativity or offensive threat.

I actually think SWP is and will more with licence from Harry. His link play with Adel has shown they are definitely on the same wavelength and with Remy thrown inot the mix, i thin kthey can all interplay well once they get used to each other. At least SWP makes intelligent runs off the ball and offers something. Mackie is just clueless on a football pitch and i would be happy if he didn't polay again personally.

To avoid relegation means winning games which means 2 strikers and goals from midfield which means 442 with Zamora+Remy up top.

Problem with that is neither CM or CD could cope with it as they are. So unless the club goes large in those two positions there is not much point buying anyone imo.

15 points from 23 games and then our best centre back (and probably best player of the season so far) leaves with as yet no replacement and people still expect us to stay up...I'm all for being optimistic but...

Yep the league table has got relegation written all over it (and deservedly so) and nothing in the window so far says to me that is going to change. If anyone could do it then it is Harry but it would mean several big players arriving in the next week to even have a sniff and that don't look likely.

I had a little whisper in my ear HR has already made a move for TFL's 'Park dae boose', its a done deal apparently.

HR keeps looking for midfield players which suggests M'bia will be moved to CB

We look as if we are letting Ferdinand go to Turkey. And with Bosingwa exiled, Dyer released and talk of Young being off-loaded that only leaves Onouha at right back so no chance of him being moved to centre half. Yet in a recent interview Harry said he recognised we needed a centre half "long term". Long term? We needed him 18 months ago. Just as nobody paid much attention when Nelsen arrived assuming he was just a reserve, maybe we are all missing the obvious here - maybe Ben Haim isn't here to make up the numbers, but will become first choice with Clint. Or to be more precise, the only choice. I just find it baffling. Am happy to admit fans (me especially) don't understand lots of stuff but I don't think I've met a Rangers fan who hasn't been crying out for a centre half for ages. If we don't get someone good to fill Nelsen's massive boots we will have to continue to play with two/ three very defensive midfielders and will then offer nothing going forward. This has major consequences because without freeing up more of the midfield I just can't see us staying up. Huge amounts hinges on signing Ollson or someone of similar calibre. But with Ollson, Livermore and Krancjar I cd see us possibly just doing it.
Onuoha recently came out and said his preferred position is CB and that he is up for the challenge of filling the gap left by Nelson. Think we'll be seeing Haim and Mbia there too, as well as a signing before the window shuts. Looks like we're now after Martin Olsson and Scott Dann, or maybe the other Olsson from WBA, or Rolando, or Dawson. So at least we're being linked with names.

We are being linked with Olsson, Rolando and Dawson but all extremely long shots. Martin Olsson, Scott Dan, an untested South Korean left back are the more likely defensive reinforcements. Not enough to keep us up imho.

Btw, was Paul Mason back on the sauce last night?

Scott Dann has been relegated 2 seasons in a row - not him

Looks like Palacios is coming in, so would imagine we move M'Bia back to CB- I wouldnt call that strenghtening though.

You could argue we still need 2/3 players. Fact is at this time in January, they probably arent available and if they are they will cost a fortune.

he scored some goals and is now one of Korean A team best 11. You will see him playing on 6th Feb in Cottage Stadium

Palacios? was great a couple of years ago but is starting to look like a spent force. even stoke fans complain about his lack of skill. wd rather the board keep its wallet dry than waste money on yet more has beens and nearly men.
