Usually players waiting for playing in a final tend to think of not missing the final avoiding injuries and cards.+

As above, see it both ways... if they get knowcked out by a 4th tier side they could be destroyed (the young players) and their season deteriat further, however, they could then just focus on league matters...

Alternative, get to final, most likely get battered probably by Chelsea, who i think will overturn their semi, and that could destroy them more as losing a final could be worse for them... also as OP states, there will be players trying to avoid injury to be fit for the final and maybe not putting 100% into other matches which could hinder their league performances.

Or even, somehow get through and win the final and they may get complacent, assume they have nothing to worry about in the league and go down, ala Birmingham.

From our POV, I really hope Villa do go through - and pick up an injury or too on the way n all... As 'orrible as that may be.

I think it will be best for them to go through, especially if chelsea get there, as i think a real spanking in a final could wreck their season completely and the players will really crumble.... another 8-0 like their league game would be ideal.

Agree it could damage them either way but a drubbing in the final would be best with the pre-final suspension and injury fears being a significant factor.

If Villa get relegated, will they be the biggest team ever to drop from the Premiership IMHO they are bigger than City, Leeds, West Ham, Wednesday or the toon.
