  • Warnock column Today (QPR quote)

    4. SWP scored before

When Shaun Wright-Phillips scored QPR's winning goal at Chelsea we were told it was his first for 50-odd games. I would dispute that. He scored a cracking goal against West Brom when I was QPR manager to put us 2-0 up. Except a linesman, wrongly, flagged for offside. We drew 1-1 and a few weeks later I was out of a job.

I had a good chat with Harry Redknapp the night before QPR played and we both said we thought it was possible to get out of bottom three. I'm sure neither of us thought they could beat Chelsea but, with none of the teams above them pulling away, a couple of wins puts them right back in the pot. I wasn't surprised Harry went back to the spine of my Championship-winning team – Hill, Derry, Mackie and Taarabt – there are times when you need that effort and commitment. I know Adel's not always associated with those qualities but he worked hard on Wednesday and he can do things no one else can – like that exquisite pass for Shaun's goal. It was the ball of the season for me.

That was a real stunning goal. I've still got a lot of time for Neil, no doubt he's bitter but it's out of passion
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Unfinished business for Neil. I think we would have survived with him at the helm. Wouldn't have fared any worse than MH

Really? I thought Hughes did a good job with the January signings & Our defence was tight, Hughes let himself down the next season when he went attacking which isn't his style

I see Warnock refer to El Hadj Diouf as "Djoufi" now. There went my repect for Warnock out the window.

Nope, obviously cares enough about the club to keep banging on about us.

              Not a bad thing imo.

I would have liked to see what NW could have done with the money Hughes had to spend. MH was riding on some of the team spirit and grit that NW had instilled. As soon as we became a Hughes outfit we crumbled.

Love Warnock, he can be bitter at time but it's clear that QPR will always be in his heart. He talks a lot of sense.

He seems to be convinced that if everything went right at the start e.g. the takeover a bit earlier, then he would have kept up up. I actually think he would have. If Tony came in earlier, Graham would have joined, Scotty Parker, Mackail Smith etc...We would have finished around mid table.

Warnock has every right to be bitter. He was forced to buy players he did not want to, Taarabt let him down with his antics, and when Warnock finally should have ahd his chance to work things, he got sacked, and MH got the money to spend. I still believe to this day that had Warnock stayed on and been given money in January, we would have stayed up.
