Not sure what to make of this signing. Could be terrible but then again, if he is here with something to prove and can recapture anything like the form he had at Bolton it could be a very shrewd bit of business. He's only 30 which is a lot younger than I thought he was and in centre back terms, still got a few years left in him!
I hope it doesnt mean that Harry has been given zilch money to buy for in this window.
I don't think that's the case . Harry has seen a half decent cb come up for grabs on a free and is taking a punt , Ben haim has done ok at Bolton and pompy and of course would probably stay if we dropped down a level . Low risk signing and one that I actually don't think would be too bad , sounds like he's worked hard in training so lets give him a chance
At the end of the day, not only does he know the player from Pompey days, but far more relevant, he's been at the club 7 weeks! I'm sure in that time he's clearly proved his credentials in comparison to the other CB's at the club.... if not, why would we bother.
not bad as are massively short in that area but harry has already said nelsen was signed as 4th choice and hardly expected to play. i wd hope the same wd be thought abot haim. IF we are now serious about trying to stay up will also need a top quality centre back.
I trust HR and co to be impartial, and as the lads been training with us f or 6 weeks, he must have done ok.
Remember we had Hargreaves training with us before and the year before that, one of NW's old Sheff Utd lads with us (name escapes me) and neither of them came through despite both working with the gaffers before.
Could be that he has sorted out the "supposed" divided squad/dressingroom once N´for all. Why sign a new superstar, if the members of the current squad is beginning to "gel" socially as well as finding their feet as a unit on the pitch.
Just a thought.
"1 or 2 players" is what HR has said in nearly every interview he has done over the last few weeks. Looks like we have 1 of the 2 already in Ben Haim! Does HR's plans include just a couple of tweaks to a squad that has been misfiring and get something solid enough keep us up this time? I think so.
It would be futile trying to bring in a swarm of new signings and gamble a string of games whilst they 'gel'
Organisation and spirit won the game last night - 2 Factors that have been missing throughout this season. I saw a team that could stay up last night & I only think there is a couple changes thats needed and a manager that can keep drumming confidence into the players.
I didn't want Ryan Nelsen & he's proved to be our best signing. In Harry we trust
Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes
