Thing is who do the players prefer to have behind them? Surely that is what matters, who they feel more comfortable with.

Most foreign keepers do prefer to punch the ball. What matters is whether they do it well, and Cesar, Casillas and the like do and punch to safety having practiced that way all their lives. It's not as if they never catch it though. Certainly doesn't make them worse keepers.

I think that Julio Cesar is the better goalkeeper. Green has made a number of errors in recent weeks. In the Villa match I felt he could have done better with the shot, although I accept that it was an excellent strike by their player. He was fortunate to get away with some abysmal distribution during the Fulham game and, on Saturday, should have shown more strength when battling with the WBA player. Cesar has not been brilliant either, but I believe that he is the better option, since he is less likely to make mistakes.

Personally I don't think it matters too much which keeper plays. Both are of a similar standard and both have their own strengths and weaknesses. But the reality is the GK position is the least of our problems.

If Anton Ferdinand is playing in front of you it doesnt matter how good you are.

Cesar is the better keeper by far, Green should be making Weetabix adds, someone said he controls his area better, yes kicks it into touch most times or hoofs it up the park to the smallest player, WBA proves that he does not control his area, good on cross's where did the ball end up in the net; good shop stopper yes that is about it from Green.

Come on please. Green nearly makes a horrendous error EVERY game. WBA, Fulham game where he kicked the ball to Rodellega 15 yards from goal....I can go on.

Seems a nice bloke but his confidence is shot to pieces. Cesar is by far the better keeper.

Granero needs to get back in the side as well. Our best CM by a long shot.

Villa home - imo at fault for the goal as he got 2 hands on the ball and didnt get it around the post. Summary he should've gone with just his left hand and by default easily saved it as his reach would be greater with one hand.
                Wigan away - did fine
Fulham home - Absolute farce created by his initial bad pass to a defender with player up his ar53, then flapped the clearance when given it back, straight to Rodelaga who should've scored when Green fell on his ar53.
                Newcastle away - did ok
West Brom home - Regardless of any nudge, he got in a ridiculous position behind the goal line and i don't think he'd have saved it even without the nudge as tried to push over the bar, not punch. He screwed up massively here.

I'd say there's a lot more than 1 mistake there, add to that he always looks edgy when any ball played to him and distribution poor most of the time. His kick straight to Foster on Wednesday summed it up for me.

I'd also say there's a clear pattern with his mistakes, ie they all come at home... maybe he feels more pressure in front of our fans and for some reason it's is affecting his performances and costing up points.

Cesar all day long for me.

100% agree mate. Green inspires zero confidence in the back four. Cesar by FAR the better keeper. No comparison.

For me Greens biggest fault is his distribution, it's pointless him having the ball if he's going to hand it straight back to other team. Paddy Kenny was exactly the same, really winds me up. Cesar on the other hand prefers to roll the ball out to full backs or Faurlin etc, you can't lose if you've got the ball!

yer he rolls it out...then Hill or Faurlin hoofs it and we lose it anyway :-) a 3 passes and a hoof team is what the commentator on the stream described us as the other day :-)

I think that's harsh on Faurlin to be fair, as he seemns the most comfortable on the ball and always looks for the pass. What annoys me more than anything is when we retain good posession in midfield, and play the ball too much to the point we overlook an attacking options or chance to slip in a striker to retain posession longer, then it works it's way back to Hill who just hoofs it and everyone in the ground knowqs that's what's coming... so why give it to him!

Ive said all along to drop green when cesar was fit .
                        Cesar MR reliability
Green MR blunder he has scored a own goal, scuffed a kick which nearly lead to a goal.

I still can't believe people are questioning cesars ability he has made one bad move this season against west ham.

I've never seen Faurlin hoof a ball in my life, and I don't see him roll to hill, I think more along the lines of Traore, and Fabio when fit, both ball playing footballers

Hill's hoofing and lack of pace are the only two weaknesses to his game.

Agree - his reading of the game, aerial strength and tackling abilities are top drawer.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

all i can add is that green was fouled and my hammers mates who have watched green more than us are praying we get rid of him cos they want him back.. they were gutted when he left.
i think we are lucky to have 2 quality goalies and our problems lie elsewhere
