An experienced manager can tell a lot more in 5 minutes watching a player with the naked eye than all the spreadsheet stats and youtube compilations put together.

You have hit the nail on the head here as it was common knowledge that Hughes had an obsession with prozone stats and he probably picked the team on who put the most distance in on the pitch during games and on the training ground rather then who could actually influence the game

Cant actually recall seeing Hughes in the crowd on any Sky games when we were not playing but you always get shots of Fergie, Big Sam, Harry and Moyes doing their homework.

Like I said Hughes was a lazy manager and the meticulous planning he always used to bang on about was the hard work (used loosely) of others

Bosingwa will def go in january cant see anyway back playing under harry and a few others as well,I think harry knows the ones that play for the club and the ones just here for a pay day.

Yeah sometimes you see a player hiding on the pitch or passing hospital balls to team mates or blaming others for their own mistakes etc little things like that can tell more about the player than prozone and stats will. When you hear Allardyce, Fergie, Redknapp, and Moyes, proper football people they have a depth of knowledge in the way they talk about the game and players. They seem to love every minute of it.

Whoever a manager wants to sign on x amount is still sanctioned by the owners as its their money, so the question is what was the board thinking about sanctioning wages at this level (if what we read as true) on players at 30 + years of age on contracts that are rock solid in their favour regardless of results. Lets hope that an expensive lesson has been learned, but not at our clubs expense

The board hired people who it thought would fulfil the ambitions of the club. It further gave the necessary financial backing to those people. On paper, most people would agree that the employment of Hughes and Rigg seemed like a good idea at the time. Obviously it wasn't.

Didn't TF say that the wage bill has been reduced this season? Perhaps we think some players are earning more than they actually are? I can't believe TF would put the financial future of the club at risk. He's said many times that if we did get relegated, it's all been planned for. Perhaps there are clauses in these big contracts which cuts the money in the event of relegation. We simply do not know what clauses are in these contracts.

I'm sure the lessons have been learned and we won't see such big contacts issued again. Personally, I trust TF running our club and to do the right thing.

I trust him as well and believe we will come good in the long run.

One thing regarding the contracts which I don't know how realistic it is, would be to have the players on a lower basic salary, say £20-30k a week, then have that amount doubled as a win bonus. That way you would surely get the players giving their all every week, and not only would they benefit but so would the club. If they didn't agree to it up front then that's fine move on to the next, as you would have an indication of their commitment level and confidence of their own ability.

I guarantee Bosingwa etc. would not have signed if this was the case.
