  • Bosingwa is on 50k?

Another poster posted that he got fined 100,000 (two weeks wages).

That means he is on 50k a week. That means we have already paid him 800k. Does anyone else think this is total madness? We already had Fabio as our right-back, and we had Dyer who could also play there (when fit!), why on earth would you want to go and spend so much money on a player who is not at the peak of his career any more?

To be honest I felt this was a needed signing at the time. We lost 5-0 to Swansea & Onouha got ripped in half. A desperate signing and more so at 59k a week to say the least as we had all summer to sort out the defence & never did. Bosingwa was available & Hughes took it.

Mark Hughes made so many mistakes & not addressing the defence after all summer of fans moaning about that area, not addressing the defence was his biggest mistake from me,,, & he made many mistakes so this being his biggest is saying something, however on the positive note we won't have any problems with Harry what so ever, Harrys one of the best managers in the league no question about it
    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Would you have preferred we spent £3m on an average prem FB and also paid them about £40k / week??

I think the fact they secured him on £50k / wk is decent in prem wage terms considering he was a free transfer so can normally negotiate better wages, not to mention his last game for Chelsea was to play in and win the champions league final. He is no mug, no matter what some fans would like to believe.

lets not re-write history. virtually everyone on here was delighted when we signed a player of his pedigree. i haven't been impressed with him either (particularly his apparent lack of fight/ effort) but don't make out hughes was an idiot for signing him. not sure who was better and available on a free?

          Exactly.

I dont actually think he's that bad, just looked as poor as everyone in what has been a poor defence. I'm not surprised some of them have started to look disinterested.

            This.

Plus, without meaning to sound like I'm having a pop, anybody that thinks we aren't paying plenty of people 50k a week is abit naive - PL footballers wages are madness these days .
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

                Looks mad.

Talking of big bucks how much is paid per week to all the non playing summer buys who have been so pants?
And none of these players have relegation clauses is their contracts?

BTW you can use hindsight to criticise decisions. They get paid a fortune to have foresight. If they mess up then they get the flak.

I am not re-writing history. I always thought it was a terrible signing.

Tell me, why would you sign Fabio on loan for a season and then Bosingwa too? There were other areas of the team that needed improving, namely, central defence.

As for we signed him because we got torn 5-0 against Swansea, that is one of the stupidest things I have ever read - it shows a complete knee-jerk reaction after one game.

Fact remains, Bosingwa was a signing that was not needed, as has been proved.

The point you miss is that any player who is in demand will refuse to sign a contract with a relegation clause or offering a low salary. we were desperate for reinforcements - and if you doubt me look back at this message board from the time, with the clamour of fans saying we need quality additions or we are going down. if a young gary neville was available for 3m and 20k a week and happy with a relegation clause I'm sure we would have signed him, but he wasn't. we had a cheap right back but he is now playing for blackburn back in the championship (where he belongs). Everyone agreed at the time we needed Premiership quality reinforcements and we got them. For whatever reason they have not performed but don't make out they were obviously bad signings at the time, because with very few exceptions they weren't.

Firstly it wasn't me who mentioned Swansea but if you remember that match Onouha looked absolutely terrible, was responsible for about three goals, one a calamitous back pass (think Titus Bramble, but worse). You say he wasn't needed but are you happy with Onouha at right back for an entire season because I certainly am not (and I'm not just basing that on the Swansea game but his performances across half a season the year before). It was clearly stated that Fabio was signed to play left back (wrongly in my view as I'm a big Traore fan) but that would have left us with Onouha or Kieran Dyer at right back. God help us! Agree about the need for a centre back (the biggest mistake Hughes made, as we all to a man said at the time) but that is a different argument to whether Bosingwa looked like a good signing at right back.

50k is about average for a player. I don't see why people are surprised these days we are not in the championship.

Sorry mate you are missing the point. Top professionals get paid a fortune because their skills give them foresight. They get entrusted with large resources and make calls that cause problems if they go wrong. Whether or not some message board posters said whatever is a side issue.
If all the summer transfers had gone well they would get praise in hindsight. Because many have not they get criticised in hindsight. That is life.

Ok, Bosingwa is on 65k a week.

Can you seriously tell me that signing him on 65k a week was a good move? I mean, seriously?

And Harry said some of our players are earning more than anyone at Tottenham did. Are you seriously trying to tell me we're a bigger club than Spurs?

Yep. £65K pw. Harry fined him two weeks wages; £130,000. That pr1ck Hughes was having a laugh. I hope Harry makes it clear that clown is to blame.
