  • Listening to Harry re strikers

He's not exactly knocking on the door of Mensa but at least he says stuff in an interview unlike Hughes who had the cheery charm of an undertaker. He also lets things slip as well. For instance, did you hear his remark a week or two back talking about strikers? He was talking about watching our (fairly pitiful strikers) in training and said "its no coincidence that if you look at the top scorers chart in the Premier League the same names are on it year after year." That said to me Cisse is a doubt long term and certainly Mackie isn't going to cut it as first choice under Harry, particularly when you look at his miss in the opening minutes against Fulham (Harry also said something about goal scoring being instinctive for a decent striker).

Suggests to me if we do bring in a striker in Jan (buy or more probably loan) it is not going to be some up and coming player that certain posters on here want. Harry isn't going to risk that in our current position. Be amazed if it wasn't someone with a strong and consistent track record (like Anelka).

Also noticed after the Fulham game he made a point of saying Cisse worked hard, sounding almost surprised. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but sounds to me as if he has had words with Cisse and told him if he is to have a future with us he is going to have to work a lot harder.

I think it's just me but I reckon the gerbil had a good game Saturday

Could've had a pen and got a man sent off first 3 mins
Couple of decent sighters 1st half
Great runs off Hangarounds shoulder into space
Forced a fantastic save late doors and before that latched onto a great ball, got in the area, made space, opened his body and just curled it wrong side of post
I also thought 75% of the time he chased and closed down (HR will get the other 25% out of him I'm sure)

We just need a player to either complement or replace him for late in games.
DJ obvious candidate for the latter and I've a feeling Kevin Doyle may be the other
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

I agree with much of what you said. And I think your right, that is what Harry will do.

My worry is it was exactly this kind of thinking that led us signing a player who had just played in a champions league final.

And look what dog**** Bosingwa is.

Not reading too much into it stainrodisalegend - noticed it myself too - he packs a lot into a sentence and often the sub plot of the sentence is the more interesting point than the main topic and agree he will target experienced players this window for sure. I think all these young hungry players are a myth anyhow. Can't blame em - If I was a millionaire straight out of school I would be hungry for lots of things and training wouldn't be one of them.

Youre spot on there stain. He definitely lets things slip in interviews if you listen to him carefully and read between the lines. His press conferences are so much more illuminating and entertaining than MH. Its gone from the ridiculous to the sublime and its clear now you can see why he endears himself so much to journalists as he always gives them a decent enough story without them having to twist words or blow them out of proportion.

Lblock, I agree. Whilst Adel & M'bia we're the plauduts MotM, Cisse actually had his best game for a while.
Even 'Arry said he was "twiffic" in his post match interview.

Probably better to listen to what 'H' actually says than speculating on his subliminal messages (I'm not convinced he thinks too long & hard about it)
