    Matt Besler, 2012 MLS Defender of the Year offered trial at QPR

    Sporting KC defender Matt Besler has been offered a trial by Barclay's Premier League club Queen's Park Rangers, along with two other clubs.
    The bright lights of Europe are starting to shine onto Matt Besler.

    Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler, who recently won the 2012 MLS Defender of the Year award, has reportedly been offered a trial by Barclay's Premier League side Queens Park Rangers, Npower Football League Championship club Birmingham City, and an unnamed club in Belgium.

    810 Sports' Nate Bukaty was first on the story.

    It would be difficult for Besler to get a deal in England because of their difficult work permit process, but Besler is currently out of contract right now with Sporting KC.

    There has been no word on whether Besler will take the offer.

    Been quite interested in watching MLS grow - people will knock it but it is growing really fast and I have watched some games this year and enjoyed it. The quality is improving too, but don't know a lot about this guy.

        MLS = Minor League Soccer. Everybody who knows anything about football knows it. It is a weird mix, with a few Premier League quality players, some Championship level, and right the way down to players who would have trouble getting in a Conference team. A typically American league: long on the huff 'n puff and short on skill. I watched the MLS championship game between Houston and LA and although I fell asleep for a chunk of it, it did remind me of a QPR match in the Championship in the days when we were fighting relegation. I wouldn't get too excited about the prospect of anybody from that league coming to us, except for Becks or Donovan.

          We need strikers. We're where we are because we've no product in the final third and we can't score goals. Let's be linked with some strikers. Our defense isn't the best (by far....) but it's better than it was now Hill and Nelsen are the central pairing and because Anton F has been dropped (hopefully for good...). We need goalscorers.

                Couldnt believe how poor the final was the other night, league 1 or 2 level at best.

                Having said that, not seen anything of this defender so cant really comment.

                On a side note, was it Bolton who signed an MLS defender of the year last season?

                  Well there are always a few gems to be found even among poor competition.

                  Main problem is that QPR just paid through the nose with wages and agents fees for some average and older players which effectively blocks any serious strengthening in January.

                  So probably see a few guys like this one and Haim etc given a shot plus a couple of loans.

                    I watched that too. Yeah the main thing was the pace of their game is extremely slow compared to the Premier League. We worry when a player from the French league would be able to deal with the pace, for an MLS it could be a real baptism of fire.

                    I'm not saying the bloke is crap, but I'm not sure we have the time to gamble on a player who could take half a season to adjust to life in the Prem.

                    For example Stuart Holden went to Bolton in January transfer window and barely played that season. The next season he looked quality though, but they obviously realised it would take him time.

                    Similar with Dempsey when he went to Fulham. He wasn't in the team every week in his first 6 months.
