  • Hi All, Different Perspective Here From a Korean-American

Hello all, been lurking here for a while and just gotta say that as a Korean-American I don't find anything racist with the term "dogsh!t" or making the mostly accurate generalization that Koreans are lightweight. However, I do find bonheurjh to be quite odd and Joon to be annoying. And although Park is not playing great, he's hardly QPR's biggest issue. Off the top of my head, they need a striker, a center back to go along with Nelsen, stop turning the ball over needlessly (Taarabt and Traore), play with some brains (M'Bia and Diakite), more effort (Bosingwa), and in general, play together as a team instead of a bunch of individuals. Hopefully this will be addressed in January, and Harry can turn this around. The only thing that QPR leads the EPL in is grey hair. However, I love the British sense of humor and find you lot to be funny, charming, and entertaining much more so than the ****e that graces the pitch at Loftus Rd. That is all and have a great day!

While it did get buried in the mountain of posts which I contributed to, I think you overlooked some of my posts. If the generalization I saw was simply that Koreans are more lightweight than their English counterparts, I would have probably not made an issue of it.

The post actually stated that Asians were too lightweight to be playing football and that they should just play ping pong or shuttlecock. Still think that the generalization was "mostly accurate"? I hope not.

I don't want to get too deep into race here, but it's true that most Asians are smaller in stature and have a slighter build. Does that mean that you need to be built like Yaya Toure to be successful? Of course not, look no further than Shinji Kagawa. Two of best players in the world, Messi and Iniesta are even more lightweight than Park. However there's an inverse scale at work here, the smaller you are the more technical skill you need to possess at the top level. Although a certain size isn't a prerequisite to being successful, all things being equal it's an advantage to be bigger. Even you have to admit that it's kinda frustrating watching Park fall down so easily. However, Park has other qualities like being a consumate professional and a grafter who always makes himself available for a pass or makes the timely tackle, and occasionally popping up with the odd game-winner. These are less obvious but no less valuable qualities but will eventually show up throughout the course of an entire season. Park is by most accounts a quiet individual by nature who would rather contribute and be part of the team rather than lead a team. Being captain is an added pressure that I'm sure he didn't ask for and as the season has progressed and QPR's standing in the table has shown, failed miserably at. There's no embarrassment admitting that. Park hasn't produced as expected as of yet. However, given the opportunity, I believe his other traits will shine and he'll come good. Especially with a team that's in such turmoil, unselfish professionals is what QPR needs. What I also believe is that you're visiting a QPR forum and should show a bit more respect and not be overly sensitive. They're last in the table and of course the mood here will be a bit surly, but they seem to be a good-natured, self-deprecating bunch, no need to sour it with claims of racism and stoke the negativity.

I think the use of the word 'lightweight in the vernacular means without substance, little to offer, dogshyte

Ah, I see. Then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I think one of the criticisms leveled at Park is that he is a 'lightweight' not to be confused with boxing terminology. Ephraim falls into the same category.
