Good to hear you can get tickets on the day. Thought it was strange as it's not as though the place gets packed. Hopefully a few more will come along on the day.

Regarding pre/post match drinks - From Footballgroundguide.com for Wigan

    Where To Drink?
Beside the away turnstiles is an entrance to a bar, specifically for the use of away fans. It has the usual bar, big screen television and sells pies, as well as teas and coffees. It's a great facility and welcomes families' It is know as the Marquee Bar as it resembles one inside. The traditional pub for away fans visiting the DW stadium is the Red Robin, which is only a few minutes walk away from the ground opposite the Cinema Complex.

Otherwise in the centre of town is a Wetherspoons outlet called the 'Moon Under Water' which was popular with away supporters on my last visit. Also worth a visit is the award winning 'Anvil' pub, which is located next to the bus station. Both these pubs are listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Also worth a mention is the Berkeley on Wallgate (near the railway station). This fair sized pub, had a good mix of home and away supporters on my last visit, serves five ever changing real ales and shows Sky Sports on a huge screen. Otherwise alcohol is available inside the stadium.

There will probably be about 15,000 home tickets available on the day if that helps

not a bad turnout considering our away form and time of year
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross

Drove up there last season for the lunchtime kick off absolutely hanging out of my ####. Lashing it down an the place seemed to have a cloud of misery hanging over it , fark me the locals are a scabby old bunch took a wrong turn and ended up in some hell hole with borded up shops and little rats hanging around not doing a lot . One particular young lady resembled vicky pollard with the pink track suit and meat apron hanging out of its top , grim to say the least . The two nil beating was nice though and watching Bruno peroni strutt his stuff in his mango top really was a sight to behold the marque bar was ace though and some of the best stewards ( outside the ground ) . Good luck to anyone going sing loud and proud and bring back the points . Can't make it due to work but will be listening out for any developments on the wireless . Oh forgot to mention on the way back from said trip F****** car decided to blow up . Couldn't make it up

For us that would mean around 29k."

                      Really? That's hugely impressive.

I'm paying on the day as will quite a few other I'd imagine so probably be looking at 1400.

I expected around half of that with it being close to Christmas etc.

Went to Wigan last year and have to say apart from losing 2-0 it was a good day out. The away fans bar under the away end is accessed BEFORE you go through turnstiles , it's a great set up and as it was 1230 ko last year was in there that early that soccer am was still on ! Also pub and chip shop right outside train station and the Orwell pub is at Wigan pier which you pass on way to ground from station.
