  • The January Transfer window - Shopping for a miracle

I didn't make it to the game yesterday, first game at Loftus Road I've missed this season so I can't judge what happened yesterday only the impact of the result. A wise man would realistically concede that relegation is now inevitable barring some wise wheeler dealings by Harry in January. I'm not going to castigate Fernandes - I've done that enough in other threads and if you've read those posts you will know my views on his transfer policy - or even Hughes, mistakes were made and there is little that can be done about that now.

There are positives to be taken however, in January I trust Harry and Fernandes will with an honest appraisal of the squad, clear out the deadwood and bring in players with a long term objective of returning to the Premier League as quickly as possible. I trust Harry will look to build a team rather than a collection of individuals. Come January and knowing Harry, he will help alleviate the pressure on some of the players and players coming in with a modus operandi of "we've got nothing to lose now, lets play with pride and freedom".

In terms of how we should approach January, I'd be looking for a mix of young player with a hunger to succeed and experienced pro's a la Ryan Nelsen. I wouldn't be expecting us to sign players like Bent or Parker. I look at Stoke and how Pulis has got players Championship players such as Kightly and Cameron Jerome performing and believe if he can get them to play above themselves, surely we can. Whilst I don't like Pulis and his Neanderthal approach and philosophies, its hard to argue with Stokes transfer policy and how they've built a unit. I'm all for Champagne football but I'd rather win ugly with the likes of Luciano Becchio than lose meekly with Djibril Cisse.

I could be accused of being reactionary and pessimistic but I'm sanguine about QPR's chances, I think the most important aspect of Harry's time at Loftus Road will be establishing team spirit and togetherness.

Fair points. January is tricky cos:
    1) Got to be in touching distance of survival or no one will agree to come
    2) Would any offers arrive for players to create spaces in the squad
Hughes left some big gaps in the squad despite buying so many. Will require some magic to fix them.

If we're not within touching distance in Jan Harry keeps saying he wouldn't want to bring any more players in as it will burden the club with even more wages which would be too risky and unsustainable in case we went down. Its not a bottomless pit after bringing in 12-14 players in the summer. IF we are in touching distance he said he'll try and get one or two loans in. So this month its down to the players we have to get some results, if not we're more than likely to be stuck with just them for rest of the season.

some of the January dealing may be forced on the H man, Cisse for instance, would he be off to France like a shot if an opportunity arose, like to see some young hungry players, think we've all had our fill of overpaid mercenary types
I must away now, I can no longer tarry

I think are hands will be tied in January as no decent player will want to come to a team cut a drift. We may get a couple of unwanted loan players. I can see us doing a fire sale as we could potentially maximise our transfer fees during this period rather than waiting till the summer.

If things are still looking very grim in January then I would sell as many top wage earners as we can, bring in some young promising Championship players and also give some game time to players like Sutherland, Ehmer, Doughty, Andrade etc.
