  • 38 Points

There is a bit more gloom about than I share. Difficult task of course and many think it is all over already but I don't.

Probably need 38 points to stay up. Not guaranteed but that kind of total at least keeps a team in it until the last day of the season.

Got 6 points already so 32 points are required.

That is 9 wins plus 5 draws required from 23 games.

Redknapp might have targeted 3 wins before January from his 7 games with Hughes mish mash squad. Then get the rest with help from the January signings or loans.

Don't really matter how you get to 38 points over the season. Adding a striker and CD in January will plug the gaping holes in the squad and Redknapp is the man to do it and get the best from the squad.

It might happen it might not but nothing is broken yet.

this season bottom 10 teams are so poor, 8 wins will make it. maximum 9 wins.

Good, positive and optimistic post.I've been a supporter for 61 years now and I wish I could share your optimism.I think its a massive ask.By your calculations 9 wins and 5 draws means only 9 defeats in the remaining 23 games.I find it hard to see where those wins are comming from having failed to register a solitary win with well over a third of the season already gone.I think its more likely we are going to rely on others at the bottom doing even worse than we have to date. We've just got to hope that some of those currently above the bottom three slip up badly.

You got a lot more experience than me of football and maybe you are right too and I do agree the current squad left as it is will most likely go down.

The trick is getting about 2 or 3 wins before January so if the reinforcements arrive there is still something to save.

To do that with what Hughes left is a big ask no question about it and the table is proof. But there is still a way to go.

The advantage of looking at the numbers is that they tell us exactly what needs to be done - ie that if a team gets to about 38 points it don't really matter much what the other teams do.
