I have been feeling gutted since Saturday (most of this season to be fair!) but up to that point supported Hughes as I had bought into his vision and into the various changes that were being made behind the scenes to get us being run like a proper Premiership football club. I still think the off the pitch stuff is enormously positive so have no concerns on that score but doesn't make the current on the pitch any easier to swallow.
Not sure why Hughes hasn't worked. Thought he did well in previous jobs and wasn't far away from getting Citeh right. People forget it took Mancini a while to get them playing at the level they should have been and by spending a lot more money. All that aside though and failing a miraculous change in form, starting at Old Trafford, it doesn't look good for Hughes.
If we get a decent man manager in who can command the respect of the players we have I still feel we have a good squad who at the moment are vastly underperforming made all the more strange as a number of these signed because of Hughes. Ignoring what has happened this season we would have loved to sign the likes of Cesar, Green, Fabio, Nelson, Mbia, Bosingwa, Diakite, Granero, Hoillet, Park, Johnson, Cisse, Zamora and Johnson. I'd hope any new manager could get them playing to their abilities rather than the largely disjointed, disinterested bunch they appear at the moment. Add in some of the more established players and I could see us starting to pick up form quite quickly.
So not all bad if action is taken or if Hughes can somehow turn it around. We need one of those things to happen now though and without any more messing around and excuses. Personally would love to see someone like Gus Poyet in charge.
