  • So who are the clubs we can catch - realistically?

Norwich look good - great job by Hughton - cannot believe how much the defending has improved there.

Southampton play some good stuff - and will spend in January to sort out that shocking defence.

Reading I believe are poor - despite that coupon busting result on Saturday which was rather fortuitious.

Wigan are hard to work out as ever - a couple of good results and then two or three bad ones is par for the course for them.

Villa are strong on youth and will spend in January of things are still looking grim.

Sunderland perhaps? They were very lucky yesterday to be playing ten - and then nine - men and were still less than convincing.

So sticking my neck out I would say we could catch Reading, Wigan and Sunderland - any others?

All of them, really. We're only 5 points off safety, its not the position that worries me as such (as mad as that may sound being rock bottom) but the manner in which we are bottom. Ie being totally mugged off at home to Southampton with a manager making clueless changes. With that kind of mentality Im struggling to see where any points are going to come from. Soton & Reading at home were, in all honesty, probably the easiest games we will have this season and weve mustered 1 point from them.
If, however, we got a new gaffer in before the Sunderland game, I would be pretty confident of catching at least 3 teams before the seasons out and surviving. We have the players there, we just dont have the manager to make it work. It seems to have gone stale and needs freshening up.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Too early to tell as even the teams that are doing well can have bad spells but at the moment I would say Southampton, Reading. Aston Villa and Sunderland.

Judging by the Villa Talk board, Lamberts in a real mess up there, you can certainly catch them and yes, even us!

Its still early days, no one gets relegated in November.

In the run up to Christmas alot of the teams directly above us play each other. That is guaranteed points for most of them, one way or another. We're a lot further entrenched than I think people realise.

Sunderland and Reading have a game in hand too, points assured for one at least.

Reading/Stoke/Southampton we won't get an easier run of games again, if you're squeamish don't look at the last few games of the season lol.

...we could possibly finish high up, but that needs a higher level of commitment and a great deal more consistency on the pitch. i'm fed up with 'unlucky' defeats/draws against the top clubs and woeful ineptitude against the bottom teams. life would be so much easier if we could beat fellow strugglers (last season bolton nearly stayed up solely on the results against relegation rivals), but under both hughes and warnock we seem to just roll over for them before playing our socks off (to no effect) against the likes of man city.

this time last year we had about 15 points, although by february about half the posters on this board said that we were totally doomed (remember the 'we'll never catch blackburn' movement). more or less anyone outside of the traditional big 6 or 7 clubs could still find themselves in a scrap at the end of the season
