  • Shame TF wasn't there yesterday.

Luckily for Hughes and a shame for the rest of us that Tony Fernandes wasn't there yesterday.

I have been sat on the fence regarding Hughes for a while now, but the last 3 games and yesterday in particular have now persuaded me that Mark Hughes is not only a poor manager but is so wrong for us on so many levels that there is simply no hope while he remains in charge.

I have been going to Loftus Road for the last 37 years and in all the ups and downs I have NEVER seen two clubs so different, so far apart in everything from the keeper to the manager.

As I sat there yesterday afternoon watching the game I looked around the whole stadium to get a feel for all that was unfolding before us.
I watched the players from both clubs, as well as both sets of fans and both the Home and Away bench's.

Right from the first whistle Southampton were up for it, where as we simply weren't.

    Here is a few obversations.

1)Their fans backed their manager totally. Ours don't
Right from the off their fans were happy to sing Nigel Adkins name many times throughout the game. - We didn't, not once and I don't think we have at any game this season. Can anyone remember hearing "Mark Hughes blue and white army" this season?
He is the most un inspiring manager in all the time I have supported us.

2)The Southampton players clearly wanted to play for their manager, the effort was there for all to see.
Did ours ? apart from Nelsen and Adel the rest just didn't look interested and certainly didn't look to be trying very hard for a game dubbed "El Sackio"
They clearly were not playing for him - literally.

3)Adkins and his bench were constantly up and down from their seats, were getting points across to the players throughout, even the subs were totally fired up and looked like they were ready to give their right arm to get out there and do their bit.
Hughes waved his arms a couple of times and to be fair he did at one point put his hands on his hips instead of the usual hands in pockets or folded arms routine.

4)The players on the pitch during dead ball situations ie waiting for a corner to be taken were chalk and cheese. The Southampton players were geeing each other up, moving about, pointing out potential danger to each other, generally looking like a TEAM that care about their situation.
Where as we looked like 11 strangers. I sit lower loft and remember one particular corner we were defending, where all of our players looked totally in their own little world. There was no comunication , no encouragement and little effort.

I just don't see how giving Hughes more time is gonna improve anything. We are clearly getting worse.

Tony Fernandes in my opinion is the best owner we have had. A real breath of fresh air who I genually believe is doing everything he can in the very best interests of the club but surely he has to see now that his blind faith in Hughes is gonna slowly eat away at our feelings and faith in himself.

Hughes has lost the fans, lost way too many games and loses more credability by the week. Judging by yesterdays performance he has lost the dressing room too.

All of our failings sit squarely with Hughes. - lack of defenders, no strikers, rubbish tactics etc etc.(all well aired on here)

He simply has to go and go now!

And if there is anyone left who still thinks he can do the job can I just point out that the 2 easiest games we were gonna get this year were Reading and Southampton at home. We have had 2 games against Reading (1 cup) and we couldn't win any one of the 3 games.
Together with the most alarming stat in football that Huges has managed just 7 wins in his last 62 away games tells you he just aint got it.

Away games are potentially 50% of your points total for the season.

He is averaging 1 win in every 9 away games which is basically 2 wins away per season!!!
I doubt if there is a manager in history with such a poor away record. How can that be premiership manager material.

Couple that with our achievements at Home so far and we are clearly in the Championship next year if Hughes remains.

Rodman, completely agree with everything you've said, you nailed it.

The R Block sang Sparky's blue and White Army at the Reading game and prior to that I think it was against Stoke last season. Compared to Warnock, Hughes is positively aloof from the fans, dour boring and uninspiring manager who really seems to struggle to connect with the fans. Also seems thoroughly insincere.

Something that amused me yesterday and I can't recall seeing/hearing it before, when Southampton scored their 3rd, their fans started chanting "Sacked in the morning! You're getting sacked in the morning!", no sooner had that started, it reverberated around the whole stadium, it was incredible to hear all four sides chanting it, home and away fans.

I actually think the booing was quite restrained yesterday there was more "Tony, sort it out! Tony, Tony, Sort it out!" Chants than booing.

        Well put Rodman.

For the last week or so, I have been really looking forward to Boxing Day, despite all the crap we've had to endure. My stepson suggested that the Mrs and him come with me that day and even better, suggested that we should go by train so that we could have a good old drink before and after.

Today when he popped round, I told him that I'm not sure I even want to go myself. How bloody sad is that.

Saw a post elsewhere earlier entitled "3 empty seats". Fellow fan who brings his two boys, going to find something else to do when we play Villa. They just can't watch that apathy from the players any longer.

Always wanted Hughes to be successful, despite being a bit dull and boring. But yesterday, I think even the most patient among us would have lost that last remaining bit of hope.

I suppose that the only consolation is that once again, we are fortunate to be in a relegation battle with some pretty dire teams, so with a new bloke taking the helm, there is still plenty of time to turn this around. Although a couple more weeks and it might be too late.

            Very good post Rodman.

            "We are clearly getting worse."

For someone else to say that as well, it must be true.
