  • The difference between then and now

In the 70s, 80s and 90s, no matter how we fared as a top flight club, we always had bucket loads of players wanted by other clubs. We moaned about being a selling club, but boy did we have some talent.

Fast forward to the present, apart from Adel (and even his true value is questionable), how much money could we raise if every player was put up for sale tomorrow? Some players we couldn't even give away due to their wages. Rowan Vine x 10.

We have a squad full of ageing journeymen Premiership players and foreigners of debatable quality. No home-grown starlets, no rough diamonds from the lower leagues, just a squad brimming of 30-somethings, not believing their luck a club like QPR can pay them tens of thousands of pounds a week. As for the imports, how many had actually heard of our humble team before they signed on the back of a few DVDs shoved under Mark Hughes' nose from agents rubbing their hands in anticipation?

It sucks. This isn't proper football, this isn't the QPR I grew up with. We're not a team any more, just a collection of over-paid individuals of varying levels of quality and desire. The few players that care can't even get a game.

Tony Fernandes has good intentions but should never have brought in Mark Hughes, then let him buy any player he sees fit. Replacing Rob Green after three games showed all that is wrong with him.

It's going to be one hell of a financial catastrophe when we go down.

Absolutely spot on. Was the point I was trying to make in my post earlier but all I got was, "Yeah let's sign another load of players and wait the next 12 games for them to gel". You have worded it much better than I did. I really fear for our club financially now unless we take some serious action trying to get rid of these players in January. A club of our size must accept that the best we can be is to develop our own players or take on the best players from the lower leagues.
