Bon I believe is in the process of relocating to London, no doubt will be back on here and as active as usual shortly
The concept of supporting a player rather than a team is not exclusive to our friends from Korea, it is extremely common in North America with NHL and NFL.
Personally I find this concept very strange, but I guess that is because I was brought up in a culture that showed loyalty to a team rather than an individual.
Some of the interactions I have had with our new friends from Korea have been very enlightening, some have been a tad scary, but that's what makes the age we now love in all the more entertaining

I think the Koreans who used to visit here have been fed up with that illogical scapegoat-hunting comments already. They got probably shocked by the atmosphere here in which Korean captain is blamed first even before the coach is mentioned. Do you guys remember what the fans here talked when Mark Hughes was criticized in the early rounds? They didn't talk about the tactics, the formation and the command at which MH had failed, but instead mentioned the decision about assigning Ji Sung Park as captain.

Actually the boards then and still is kind of anti-korean. When Ji Sung Park started every game without the necessary rest, nobody appreciated that here. When he covered the middle and the sides due to the weak defense selflessly, even out of his usual positions, nobody appreciated that here. Beyond that, the fans here blamed him for the bad results. If the team Liverpool doesn't do well on the league, the 1st man to blame should be Gerrard? With the selfish players like Hoilett, Taraabt who scores very rarely but always plays like they are Messi, the team can't win. If a player destroys the team chemistry, he should not be on the pitch even he may score. It's meaningless to have a few goals with the cost of breaking team chemistry. What MH failed crucially is making those players play as members of one team.

Lots of Manchester United fans in Korea who became fans after Park's joining the club still watches their matches and still read the ManU forum. Why? Because it became their habit even though there is not a single Korean player in the club any more. Becoming fans requires time and patience. Who will be that patient with the hostile atmosphere?
The internet is full of plums mate, if you want a better impression of R's fans talk to people around the ground would be my advice.

To say no one appreciated Park is a bit wrong though, many of us sang his praises when he played well and criticised Hughes for playing Park out of position. Putting all QPR fans in the same boat is as wrong as some QPR fans putting all Koreans in the same boat. Wouldn't you agree?

Okay, I'm usually a silent reader, but this post ticks me off.

It's been just a few months since the "lightweight" football team from Korea soundly defeated team GB in the summer olympics and won the bronze.

That was a racist comment whether you knew it or not. Are you really living up to your name, Factamondo?

The fact is that Ji Sung Park has played consistently good football at the highest level for many years, and all of the teams he played for have met with great success to which Park himself contributed significantly. There is no other player at QPR for which this statement would be more true.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions regarding Park's performances so far this season, some of which in my opinion have been good, some not so much, but you are belittling perhaps the best asset your own team has. Childish, and racist as well.

no, park is **** joon. he was only brought to qpr because of millions of your country people worship him like some god.

yeah he has had a couple of DECENT games over the years, but for the last 4-5 years he has been sat on his #### next to ferguson on the bench and the only reason why he ever made the bench at man utd is because of the money being generated for sales in asia.

now, if your god is so good, how come no one better than qpr try to sign him?

if the following comment gets me infraction poins then so be it.

im sick to death of all these asian people who overnight all claim to be qpr supporters. lets get this straight, you follow your god park, not qpr. now why dont you go and create a park website or something to comment on instead of here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, MYU. I generally have a good time reading the boards, keeping up to date on both QPR and Park. It's usually interesting reading, despite the team's performance so far this season.

Hitman, as I said in my post, you are entitled to your own opinion of Park's performance this season, as am I. However, you did not talk about Park's current season at QPR -- you posted that Park "has had a couple of DECENT games over the years" and that he only warmed benches at Manchester United due to his financial value to the club rather than his footballing ability.

Actually, anyone who has closely followed Manchester United in the past half decade would be able to tell that you know nothing about that club, its manager and players whatsoever except a little bit of what you have read on tabloid headlines over the years.

Maybe Park is not as good as he used to be, due to his age, but I don't think he's aged enough to become useless just yet. As for claiming that he was never any good, well, you simply need to re-study your recent football history. Park was never a Ronaldo (his former teammate), but he was always a quality player at all the clubs he played. Did you know that before Ronaldo became the excellent player he is now, there was a segment of (non-Korean) Manchester United fans who preferred Park over Ronaldo because of Park's consistency and Ronaldo's lack of it (despite his obvious raw talent)? Park has competed for starting spots against the likes of Ronaldo, Giggs, Nani and Valencia over the years and often got his starting spot, especially against the strongest of teams. More recently, in fact as recently as two seasons ago, Park was one of Manchester United's most important players until he picked up an injury at the Asian Cup.

Sure, Park sells shirts and attracts sponsors for the club (be it Manchester United or QPR), but that's because he has been a quality player. Koreans and Asians would not have become Park's fans in the first place if he had not consistently played well over the years. Previously, there were some other players at Manchester United of Asian ethnicity, but they did not bring nearly as much financial gain to the club, because their mediocre performance failed to gain as much attention from Asian football fans. It was different with Park, because he actually played well more often than not.

This season, QPR has lost or tied all games while Park was playing. However, QPR has not improved in the last few games while Park was out due to his knee injury. In my opinion, for the most part QPR has been losing games this season despite Park's best efforts, not because of him. I see that you feel differently, and that much I can respect.

However, do not post malicious misinformation about the captain of your team. Some people might not know better and actually believe the things you are saying.

I think you have a point Joon, but It seems Hitman is just mad because of Hughes and our players. In his perspective, it could be annoying to see fans without the slightest display of loyalty to the club.

Bear in mind that Park is just one of our players. If you could criticise anyone who is not doing good for the club including Park, there wouldn't be anyone offending you.

Thats that, as for Park, I must admit that his last 3 games were not his best. Now that he coming back from injury, we could expect him to score or assist and be a workhorse of QPR

Hitman is a local fan whereas Joon you are a newbie fan.

Lets all get along and respect one another.

bonheurjh, I may be new to QPR fandom, but am no newbie when it comes to football. Is being a local fan living in England (such as hitman presumably is) supposed to give that member some kind of special status above that of international fans watching from overseas, such as myself? Am I a second-class member?

I agree that we should all get along and respect one another, but your post seems to be more a reply to my post than hitman's, so I feel that you are implying that I was somehow not respectful and being abrasive. I do not think that I have been disrepectful or abrasive, nor do I think I should defer to other members simply because they have been posting on these boards for a longer period of time. A forum is a place for discussion, by definition.

I have reiterated in each of my posts that I respect everyone's right to their opinions about our players' performances (in this case, Park), but the posts I am responding to are not of such good nature.

I replied to the first post from Factamondo because there was racism in it, and if you think I should not have responded to that, you would be condoning it.

Hitman then replied to my post which was calling out the racism, saying that Park is and always was a **** player and backing it up with a major misstatement, then closing by saying to me (and pretty much all other Korean posters, such as yourself), "why dont you go and create a park website or something to comment on instead of here. "

Do you know what that means? Hitman is saying, although not as bluntly, "we don't want your kind here, go back home to where you came from." I did not make a big deal out of that, but that is what he means. Remember, I only posted once, and that was a reply against racism. Hitman told me to go away. What does that tell you?

Do you still think I should not have posted a reply to Hitman?

I know that your English is not perfect, but you need to catch these kinds of undertones when people post these kinds of comments. Why do you think I'm posting for the first time since registering in July?

I was just about done posting in this thread, but you seem to be defending Hitman, so I had to call you out on where you are wrong, especially since you are a forum mod. Be more aware of these kinds of issues, it is part of your job as moderator and as a responsible member of society in general.

Park is past it as a premier league player, Ferguson knew when to get rid. That Japanese guy they got in to replace him is much much better. He is a cast off from UTD and we got him to sell shirts in Asia. Looks poor even in a very poor team and the Korean fans maybe ought to find another better player to hero worship.

This statement is just such drivel. A popular conspiracy line that people love to lap up. This is not why we got him. When was the last time you travelled Asia? I travelled at Park's peak and no one AT ALL has any interest in him outside of his own country. Over 95% of merchandise in Asia is fake and he is more Ian Dowie than David Beckham when it 'scomes to a face to sell style. He is not even the top star in his own country now as far as I can see it. We will not make much at all in the scheme of things from a few shirt sales in SK.

We got him becuase he played well for UTD - Many on here thought it a great signing and no with your beautiful hindsight all say he is rubbish. Right now - most QPR players look rubbish - when we thety are not.

still rubbish tho and if he was any good he would have shone this season playing with these other lot. They better off getting behind that new Asian Man Utd player and following him, he looks much better. Interesting that you say most Shirts bought over there are fake and not the real thing, could we have bought a fake Park? :-) ....maybe we just got a player that looks like him because he's not much good football wise and i thought he was half decent at UTD.
