  • 3 observations from bristol city game

    just watched the highighlights and:

1)fitz hall slipped every time maynard shimmied to the right - including once for the goal. this is clearly going to be expoited

2)stewart is awful - his positioning half the time is all over the shop and twice gifted the ball to their strikers

3)how did leigertwood not score at the end?????????

therefore - please, please don't play stewart or hall unless you have to mr magilton (as it happens i thoroughly dislike both players) but these highlights have merely reminded me of their obvious shortcomings.

on the plus side we seemed to play some nice football.

    feel good about tomorrow

I was there, and in my opinion, we played really very well.

Ashton Gate is a tough place to go, and we attacked more in one night than I've seen us do in many years. City's front two will create merry hell for a lot of defences, and on the whole we did well. Cerny had one shot to stop in the first half, and no saves to make in the second....and we were away from home !

Like everyone else, when Legs walked through at the end and still missd, I was, in shere temper, trying to kick the living ****e out of the stupid plastic seat and remove it from it's hinges, and leaving the ground couldn't speak for about 30 mins in the car on the way home, but that was just frustration.

When you look back on it, the difference was one superb strike at goal. I really don't understand the massive negatives people are spouting off about how we played. We played well, and we'll play a lot worse than that and win I promise you.

The defence is pretty good all in all. What those highlights dont show you are the number of headers are back two won to clear danger. Against twO small quick forwards they did okay.

All we really lack is dangerous strikers. Like city's two, the sort that when they get the ball you hold your breath and panic. Natural goal scorers with pace and movement. I look at Vine Agy and HH, and none of them have any of those three attributes, and until we find some, and maybe Balanta will prove to be it, we will only ever be play off challengers at very best.
Fags n weed, glue n speed, but I draws the line at crack !

Pts 1,2 & 3 can all easily be solved

Vine has pace and movement -- positional play I think is Vine's strength, popping up where least expected -- but he in particular is a supporting forward, not a poacher. We need him for THAT linking up /creator role, but still need that man at the top for him to create for.
Balanta -- don't think I've seen him at this level enough to really make a judgement or comment on his suitablility. But he certainly shows promise for the future -- not quite yet.

Oh, and I totally agree with your points 1, 2, and 3 at the top of the thread. As pointed out be W12, easily solved -- PLAY CONNOLLY AND GORKSS, JIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the same impression over the whole 90 mins.

Hall will always play with Magilton. One of his favourites already like Holloway had with BigNOT.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.
