The reason we are where we are is simple to me. We do not have enough players with the outright desire and determine to win at all costs.
Going through the starting 11 I only see that Nelson, Faurlin, and Granero are the only 3 that really seem desperate to get the points.
Cisse, Bosingwa, Traore, Adel(although he has been trying), Zamora all put their personal performance ahead of the greater good of the team and I would say only Adel is giving his best.
Diakite, Hoilett, Ferdinand and Cesar are somewhere in the middle.
As much as Hill, Mackie and Derry are nowhere near the quality of the new players you always know they will give their all to get the 3 points.
The question for Hughes against Southampton is whether he forgoes some of the good passing and build up play for players that really want it. Personally I expect there to be a few changes for Saints game and wouldn't be surprised to see Hill, Derry and Mackie getting a game.
