but lets say he did go before transfer day for around £2M or £3M cash, would you hold your hands up & say "our board are crap" or would you remind us that Taarabt WILL score Oops sorry "Taarabt said HE will score 15 goals this season" or "there's only 6 games gone, "plenty more fish in the sea"

Cash only - up front - perhaps with an attendant sell on clause or promotion clause for additional payment - any club in Leeds position would accept. They'd be under enormous pressure from creditors and bankers not to reject any straight cash offer. Indeed, I'd go as far to say that they would even accept a lower straight cash offer.

They're currently negotiating with Leeds City and Wetherby councils over Thorp Arch and its future. They would, honestly, bite anyone's hand off, especially for a player in Beckford's contract situation. Of course, would Leeds would say publically or for public consumption would be markedly different.

As soon as Villa made their cash offer for Delph, the deal was done. This despite quoting higher prices and the player having 3 years remaining on his contract.

If we had tired to get beckford in the summer we would of stood a chance now as the window is closing and leeds dont need to sell of course there going to ask for silly money.

Added to the fact that everyone knows we need a striker they hold all the cards.

Maybe Leeds take the view that if his goals take them up it will be worth it, even if they lose him on a free. If we have bid £2.8m plus Agyman that is not a bad offer. If it was me I'd be tempted to go another 500k or so, but if still they won't sell sometimes you just have to respect that.

Can you imagine the reaction of the L:eeds fans if they sold him for 2 million? Shame he didn't play for a smaller club. They are focused on getting promoted. I suspect if they fail, he will go.

at the end of the day i don't see how it would be in leeds' best interests to let beckford go now (unless he were to kick up a fuss and his form dropped.)

1/ their finances aren't great but they've still had a healthy wodge of cash from villa for delph.

2/ gambling on promotion seems a sound bet (if you'd said to bates pay £3m now and get instant promotion he would).

3/ if we're still in the championship next season and no premiership clubs are in for him he will most likely sign a new contract.

if i was in their position i would only contemplate accepting a bid of AT LEAST £3.5m-£4m cash, up front, no add-ons. not worth it otherwise.
