There comes a point when the club has to say "Actually, we really need a striker, and here's the guy who we really want. So now, we are going to do whatever we have to in order to sign him." If they'd adopted that attitude last season, we might even have made the playoffs, but it certainly should have been the first words on the lips of the board when they met to plan for this season. Should have been the first player in, with a good pre season behind him and time to settle in.

Trawling around to see who fits the wage structure etc leads us to the sort of position we are in now, a bunch of strikers who really aren't good enough. Being afraid to take a chance on a striker leads us to where we are now.

If they wanted Evans, they could have had him. If they wanted Chopra, they could have had him. If they wanted Cox, they could have had him. I believe they could have had Beckford for £2m when Dowie was here.

The idea that you will have a queue of players at Flav's door asking for their pay to be increased in line with a big money striker is, frankly, nonsense. When Robinho came into Man City last year, do you think Richard Dunne would have been in to see Mark Hughes to say "I need to get paid the same as he's getting?" Of course not. Even in the CCC, there are clearly some players better than others. They will get paid accordingly.

So, no whining about how difficult it is. Poor thinking and strategic planning led us to this. It may mean a costly lesson being learned by the board as a result.

it's difficult signing players if you are not willing to compete with other teams in terms of transfer fee and wages. at some time we have to gamble.

The strange thing is, Beckford's fee would be mere loose change to Mittal...the equivalent of dropping some money down the back of his sofa and not even noticing it missing (at least until his accountant pointed it out perhaps ;-) )

IF we do ever get promoted the mittals may look to invest some serious change but then again they only have a 20% stake so whats the point

my understanding is that lakshmi has lent the money to amit to invest so there is no money being directly invested from lakshmi

How is it so hard, others manage it quite easily, if we are going for these players and dont get them then it means someone else bidded better/persuaded better. Now no club is gonna say I will sell to QPR for 4 mil coz they rich or cut off my nose to spite my face and sell elsewhere for 1 mil, so the question is what are we doing wrong and who is getting it wrong..not hard that, simple busness..so no excuses coz thats bull!

is it because we are so desperate now, was the "advice" given to Flav wrong, seems pretty clear cut to me, GP was hoping Taarabt was going to be the answer to all our goalscoring troubles and so far he hasn't flourished (well not in the goalscoring department) has GP gone to Flav tail between his legs & said "sorry boss i was wrong" Again!

this would & should have all been done & dusted in the summer as we've known for not the 3 GAMES that certain people keep harping on about but around 50 GAMES that our forwards just don't cut the mustard

but because we are so desperate now, we are being quoted stupid prices

MYU, you keep missing the point, don't you? Its not a question of how difficult it might be, its a question of whether you succeed. And so far our team of people trying to buy us a player who might possibly know how to score a goal has failed. Its not our job to constantly suggest names - they are supposedly the brains of the operation. They have messed up trying to sign eveyone else - who else are they failing to buy next?

It's also a question of how bad you want someone... If we wanted someone bad enought we'd break the bank and pull out all the stops. Then if the player declines then we'll know that the board mean business and a large proportion would probably get off their backs. I'm happy with what we have at them minute I just feel with one or two players who can put the ball in the net would mean we go from an average side to a contender/big player!

PETE its not a question of will Taarabat score... We all can see he is a quality player and there is no arguements on that front. THE POINT is we need an out and out goal scorer, a fox in the box. Taarabat has too much flair. We need someone to hit the back of the net, not someone who cares about twisting and turning the same player 3 times over!

Sometimes you have to pay over the odds and a full price for a player. You can't always expect a bargain. Darren Bent to Spurs and Berbatov to United being prime examples.

edit.....worth pointing out that Forest haven't had any trouble at all in securing front players in the close season
