  • Style of play

Do we play too much football? I know we have a tradition of playing stylish football, and we fans are proud of this and insist on it.
But are we overplaying? Do we need to be more direct? Cisse gets caught offside time and again, is that because he wants it earlier? Should we start playing to his strengths and play the ball into the channels, turning the oppo defence around and having Cisse breathing down their necks?
Reading the other day played very much a % game where Roberts just chased everything and then won throw ins gaining ground, should we try this? They then try to start playing in the oppo's 3rd. Adel is at his best running at defenders and backing them into the box, they daren't go near him, Mackie chasing and harrassing defenders in and around their own box will make them a lot more nervy.
I know we have good Midfield players in Granero etc but we never get behind teams.
Whatdya reckon? More Direct...would we be more successful?

I think the the major problem is we play all our football in front of teams and dont get them running towards their own goal.

We also have to be braver from the midfield, when we do put balls in the box there is only ever the striker in there limiting our chances; we dont have a Lampard/Peacock/Nolan who is willing to chance their arm and get into the box beyond the striker or the defence and therefore were predictable.

I think our midfield is scared of getting to far forward in fear of getting done on the counter attack, this could be fear or it could be how their coached.

If we could get some movement in the team, becasue we have the ability to pass and move the ball, and were braver from midfield we will stand a better chance at creating opportunities

good post dave but i would tend to disagree (shock horror)

we are playing good passing football but i believe the problem is the actual pace of how we pass it about.

After watching the west brom game, it is clear that they move the ball about much quicker by taking two or three touches per man. thus, getting up the pitch and attacking much faster and not giving southamptons defence time to settle into position.

for me here lies the key.

if you get a chance to watch our game against reading again, just count how many touches adel, granero, hoillet and diakite each have whenever they have possesion of the ball individually.

My view is that we don't really start playing at all until we go behind, which we seem to do quite a lot at the moment. We should be starting games like that and really going for it, especially at home. I'd rather go down all guns blazing than try to hang on for a 0-0 draw and be bored ****less.

            lmao, in short................yeah!

as clem is suggesting, same passing movement but more urgency.

numerance times in the second half, adel was waving trore forward. that is what we need, pass and effing move, not tap tap tap tap tap then pass.
