  • Fulham helped save QPR in 2002

I was reading about Loftus Road on Wikipedia (Don't ask why) and I saw this

A £1 million payment by QPR's long time local rivals Fulham in 2002 helped to alleviate the financial problems in return for a ground sharing agreement while Craven Cottage was developed.

I knew Fulham ground shared but I had no idea they paid that kind of money to help a local club. That's great to read that a rival club would help like that, not sure if anyone else finds that interesting but I think it's great to see... Gotta say I don't think I would help Chelsea

    Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
    And many more mistakes

Its called rent mate, or business deal,.... why would we let them use our ground for nothing?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that they actually conned QPR with that deal, because QPR had to pay the costs for hosting the matches i.e. electricity, policing and other bills.

Anyway, QPR helped them out a few years earlier when they signed Dean Coney & Paul Parker in a joint deal, but only really wanted the latter!

i agree that they weren't exactly looking to "help us out". Turned out they needed a new ground, we needed money.
Also - we were 2 divs below them so not exactly footballing rivals. rivals in terms of fanbase, but didn't matter an ounce that we shared a ground on a footballing term.

Yeah, Fulham decided they needed to develop a new ground just to help QPR.

          This place sometimes...

I helped saved my local Londis by giving them £2.50 yesterday. It was actually for a can of Red Bull, bag of McCoys (Salt & Malt Vinegar flavour) and a pack of Wrigleys chewing gum (green packet) - but still meant I was being a right nice ba$tard helping to save them.

I recollect Rangers also got stuck with the bill for upgrading parts of the ground to me new regulations.

Spot on as far as I know it. Rangers fudged up with the minor detail of the deal and it actually cost the club over the whole season for the reasons you highlight. Got really messy at the time too.
