  • My take on opening games

Firstly, long time reader, first time poster. Hello all.

Over the past 3 league games i have come to the conclusion that Magilton is little more then a motivator. His team selection and tactics have been very questionable in each and every game.

Blackpool - Why after playing Vine and Agymang together for a majority of the friendlies did JM drop them both in favour of a partnership that was untried in Helguson and Tarrabat?

Plymouth - After 75mins where Rangers were controlling the game JM decides to take off Helguson in favour of Agymang. Helguson might not be a world beater or a 30 goal a season stricker but what he does do is challenge for headers and holds the ball up. As soon as he went off, every ball played upto the front 2 just came straight back putting pressure on the defence which as we all know eventually buckled.

Bristol City - So after witnessing the above happen at Plymouth JM decides to leave out Helguson? After a goal and a very productive game he gets dropped to the bench. Again Agymang plays and again he fails to hold up the ball to allow the midfield a chance to get forward. Tarrabat likes to drop deep to recieve the ball and then turn and run at the defence, he needs someone to play off and not a player like Agymang that likes to play on the defenders shoulder.

As with the defence, JM has needlessly swapped things around from last year. He keeps harping on about playing good attacking passing football. Well why then leave the best passer of the ball amongst our defenders (Connolly) on the bench. Rumors have said he is carrying a knock, well i can confirm he has been training without and injury or 'knock' since 2 days before the Blackpool game. He is fit to play.

Gorkss gets dropped after solid performances in the previous games.

The best defences are built on consistency. It is not good for them to be chopped and changed, how can they get used to how the others play?

JM needs to seriously look at his squad and how they play. To me he is not picking the players on merit.

Anyway that is my 2 bobs worth, please critique

      Welcome aboard.

Must say, we were all miffed with the front two first game against Blackpool after the pre-season. Tarrabt did come in a bit later, but Helguson getting the nod was surprising.

I think that Vine, Ageymang are too similar in the way they like to play on the defenders shoulder to play together.

Helguson would be my choice up front with Vine.

Id like to see Tarrabat played on the left.

great first post, look forward to hearing more!

regarding team selection must admit im baffled.. but i fear he like the previous managers.. knows he has a great attacking squad in sense of buz, vine and routledge etc..

however like the others its accomodating a system for those players. it seems mag is trying to accommodate buz at any cost.. along with routledge and taarabt. no doubt he will want his captain rowlands in the side and i suppose also faurlin considering he put him in the team after shortly being back from injury.

our strikers really dictate what style we play

playing agyemang really i see only does one thing.. using his pace. having that pace on the last defender makes other teams play deeper otherwise through balls will cut the defence in half.

playing vine for me says we are gonna go counter attacking. speed and passing through teams

helguson sorta gives me idea we wanna have the option of strength and aerial bombardment. especially since he is our only "known" threat in the air.

pellicori having not seen i cannot judge, however it seems he is similar mould to helguson in that he will hold ball up and win headers.

a chopra / beckford combined with helguson or vine is prolly the answer for our goal crisis, however we know that type of player isnt cheap
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
            Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"
