Am very much hoping- but not remotely expecting- that Hughes will pick Clint Hill to partner Nelsen. The chance would be a fine thing..

And I'm thinking of Anton v West Brom... Holt gave Clint the run around, sure, but Holt didn't score off Clint :-)

Reading are a physical side, especially from set pieces. So I wonder who is more physical....Hill who gave Holt a hard time and matched him for strength and can defend set pieces easily, or Ferdinand who got wrecked by Zolton Gera on a number of occasions and cannot defend set pieces to save his life.

Hill for me. I remember he saved us from conceding from set pieces on a number of occasions last season (Swansea at home comes to mind) plus he isn't too bad in our set pieces; he has a bullet of a header!

hill over Ferdinand for me too. In fact anyone over Ferdinand! How he's played top flight football for so many years is beyond me! He reminds me of a less technically gifted zesh rahman! :-)

Seriously?! Hill got bullied by Holt & made to look a total fool for 45mins before being dragged.

I love Hill dont get me wrong, but that 1 statement is about as far off the mark as you can be.. IMHO of course.

Fair point, but Holt could bundle over Vidic and make him look stupid, he's just a big lump that harasses defenders all game by literally falling on them. Hill done well to stop him on a few occasions, but Anton would not be able to put up with that imo, Plus Hill is much better at defending set pieces.

I think Ferdinand over hill might be better.
Im thinking back to the last time Ferdinand partnered Nelsen in defence at home, Chelsea. We got a clean sheet.

they're both s--t and not premier league standard IMO
would be a good pairing in the championship or div 1
shouldn't be in a 25 man squad in the PL, let alone starting 11
by the time we get to Jan, we could be so far behind that new signings will be pointless
