He's only asked to turn out 38 times a season. You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

It's not as if the bloke is out of the house 10 hours a day. Surely if Arsenal can get a 14 minute flight to Norwich, young Gareth can make it to Southampton. His Uncle Harry lives quite close too. He could take Rosie for a nice walk as his warm down after.

He is entitled to paternity leave, and he's taking it. People can disagree all they like but this season Gael Clichy and Victor Moses have also taken it. As have many, many people.
Bale has performed out of his skin for Spurs many times. Shame on anyone who begrudges him a bit of paternity leave.

I've not seen it confirmed anywhere that he'll miss the weekend's game, doesn't look like he'll be playing Thursday though.
It would be interesting to know what clubs are legally obliged to do in these situations. Obviously letting him be with his other half for labour is fair enough, but Dave may have a point that normal rules don't necessarily apply to professional footballers.

I don't know ant details about his daughters birth, but as you say there could be any number of reasons why he neeeds to be there.
My daughter had complications and was born 9 weeks premature and weighed only 2lb 5oz. She was in special care for 6 weeks thereafter and still at risk throughout that period. Would i be thinking about football after a week.... no chance.
