  • Can we clarify our position on Beckford please? /merged thread/

Proving why he IS worth the gamble of £4m or even £5m.

Great turn on the edge of the area smashing a left foot strike into the bottom corner. Had his back to goal showing yet another great skill, this time knowing where the goal is without looking. He's an instinctive and hungry striker.

Why aren't we prepared to stump up?

PK, i've had faith in this kid since his loan spell at Scunny. Scored one of the best goals you're likely to see for them and has csored plently of amazing strikes for Leeds.

Like I said many times...it's not just about quantity with this lad, but largely about quality. At 27, he's not an inexperienced youngster. Yes...he's brash, but so what?

Maybe a character like him around will give the squad a buzz. The lad ouzes confidence and style.

£4-5m is nothing when a Prem place is at stake.

couldn't agree more (and to think we showed him the door):cry::cry:

personally i'd say £3M would do it as he's out of contract at the end of the season & is allowed to talk to any club come 1st January God i hope we arn't thinking of going down the Watson route, you know, he's in the bag January ha ha ha

yep, seen most of his goals over the last few years (great vids on youtube)

pity GP doesn't know how to use the internet ;D ;D ;D ;D

I thought the side already had a Buzz Benny?
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

i honestly believe if the club made 2 or 3 quality signings & i mean quality we'd have LR packed to the rafters & rocking like the good old days

i think to many supporters have been ****ed of with the lack of ambition regarding signings, whereas if the club did make a couple of "class signings" the fans would come back in there droves

            just my opinion

That's my exact concern. By that time, everyone will want a piece. If we stump up the money before this happens, he'll be a Rangers player for sure.

If we put an offer in and it was accepted what actually makes you think he'd even want to play for us?

Leeds are a massive club League 1 or not, surely he'd want to sign for a club with the same stature as them.

If as someone says Leeds are asking £10m no one is going to pay that. After Leeds got £8m for that midfielder they are presumably under no pressure to sell, so are probably just putting silly figures on him to ward off suitors. If Leeds did suddenly decide they wanted to sell I bet there wd be loads of clubs after him and as usual we wd put in a bid but it wouldn't be enough.

Okay, London lad and they say it will take a ridiculous offer to buy him. If we are serious about going up, its this kind of player we need. One thing I am starting to get pished off about is away fans singning "your rich and your team is s.hit" and our fans talking amongst ourselves agreeing those chants. Time to make a statement and make efforts in getting him in or someone similar. To much like last season. The Magilton/Gorman combo does allow for attractive football and we are showing glimpses of the football we played under De Canio(yet some still mock him), trouble is we are struggling big time to find the back of the net.

But Pete do you think the money is available for that kind of purchase?

Exactly and this is the point I was coming to, personally I think Beckford will end up with someone in the Prem like Hull, Stoke or even Fulham.

There must be a dozen clubs waiting one of the other to make the first move. It is quite obvious how much money we are prepared to offer for a striker and Beckford is well out of our price range.

Ask yourself this, why has no one signed him yet?

Bates may well end up getting £6-7 million for him.

Can we clarify our position on Beckford please?

                              Here's my take on it.

Paladini is a man who likes to be thought of as a football genius (stop giggling at the back), he seems to want to appear as "The Man", a "Man of the people" etc etc.

Ollie confirming he got an excited phone call from GP when he was on holiday shouting "I got Ian Evatt - only quarter of a mill!!!!!!!" just goes to show his attitude to transfers and talent spotting.

A few years back we had this fella on trial and the football genius and his puppet of the time, Mr Gary Waddock, watched this bloke have a good few games but decided they didn't want to stump up £150k for him. A local lad from Harrow this fella was and he'd of loved to stay in the area as he was never going to make it playing for the **** as Dogbra a bit difficult to dislodge at the time! But QPR said "no thanks" - we'll sign Preston's reserve centre forward on mind boggling wages sometime in the future instead.

So off this lad goes to S****horpe.

His name you'll probably of already guessed - Mr Jermaine Beckford.

So can you imagine the total and utter embarassment our man of the people would feel of having to bid north of a million quid for the fella he could've signed for a TENTH of that?

Forget Beckford - instead look to a struggling striker in the prem who we'll take on loan as that's about as good as it'll get.

We could always sign another midfielder though......
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.
