    well

Rodney was for many the greatest ever player to play for qpr,an for us older fans you must understand why .between 1960 and 65 we had many goalscoring players, and we pushed for promotion but always there was this knowledge that apart from 4 seasons we had never been out of the lower divisions, our fan base just couldnt imagine going up one division let alone actually playing in the top flight,so this stocky little man arrives at the club his name was jim gregory, his ambition knew no boundaries

he being an ex fulham director rememberd bobby keetch jim langley and rodney marsh, they all soon joined qpr I actually watched his first home game against millwall we won 6-1,march scored twice
but most of us rememberd a terrible injury to john collins he smashed his head open on a goal post there was blood everywhere.marsh played 16 times in his first season scoring 8 goals
he really went crazy the next season hitting 44 goals in all competitions but also we won the league cup at wembley in front of 97 thousand people, mass hysteria everywhere as everybody couldnt believe what they had just seen

so what was it about marsh that made him so special, well he had this amazing ball controll he would back onto defences and collect the ball on his chest and drop the ball onto his knee then he would turn to face the defenders and pass the ball from foot to foot as he weaved his way through the whole team knowbody could stop him he was just incredible, even george best had commented on marshes trickery and skill

perhaps the goal that always sticks in everyones mind was when the world cup winning side played against the brightest young tallents in the country, the game at highbury ended five nil to the youngsters, but knowbody could beleive the rodney spectacular where he run at the whole defence and dribbled through them all and scored

when qpr finnally sold rodney to man city it was a very sad day for all rangers fans many of us believed that never again would we ever win a wembley final, and to this day we havent

BUT HOT ROD IF YOU ARE READING THIS IN MY OPINION YOU ARE THE GREATEST PLAYER IN OUR HISTORY,AND IF YOU HADNT BROKEN YOUR FOOT IN THE 68-69 SEASON WHO KNOWS WHAT WE COULD HAVE ACHEIVED,PERHAPS WE COULD HAVE EVEN STAYED UP WITH YOU AND BARRY BRIDGES AND FRANK CLARK ALL SCORING SOME GOALS.................god bless you rodders may you live for another twenty years at least,or maybe you can live to your one hundred

      rodnee rodnee

rodnee rodnee the crowd did cry
floating through the defences like an iradescent butterfly
the boy who was named after a ship
was to become the icon of so much worship

people dreamed of him every night
his ball skills were such a delight
bending thirty yarders inside the far post
or getting in on the blind side our rodney would ghost

opposition couldnt stop him that was for certain
he very seldom lost when the ref whistled the final curtain
how many travelling fans saw there dreams go for burton

rodnee with those long shorts looked like a big grisley bear
but his appearance was created to deceive he didnt mind the stare
just as long as when marsh beat players they were aware
there would never be another player with so much flair

rodders modeled his game on his hero from scotlands moor
but somehow i prefered rodney to dennis law
he seemed to have more tricks in store

so this is it my poem to the man who many defender clatters
I know it aint up to much but its the thought that matters
qprdad dont you think im right in my choice of the greatest, do you agree
that in our lifetime there would be just the one and only rodney

                      yes

yes i think he is a tit
and getting past betting shops can be a problem cant it
ive met both rod and stan and stan is the easiest going
rod is fairly obessive without actually knowing
what the hell hes talking about
its like compareing minow and trout
                      stan couldnt give a toss
rod has to be the boss
rodders could rival brian clough as the biggest big head
but bowlesy couldnt care if the bailiffs took his bed
bowlesy couldnt care less if his smoking habbit has blacked his tooth
where as rodney would consider stan to be uncouth
stan would blow a southern breeze what ever the weather
where as poor rodney in front of a lady would squeeze his cheeks together
                      they are chalk and cheese
unless the ball is at there feet and then they like to tease
                      so who was the best
well hitting the ball marsh was blessed
                      athletism goes to stan
bycycles kicks hot rod was the man
heading a ball marsh was savage
                      stan was only average
so there it is make of it what you will
                      but rods my favourite still

                          yes

yes marsh all day long for me as well,I think stan was a very genuine guy,he really was just like one of your mates

but stan could never consistantly dribble through the whole team like marsh could, sure enough stan did go on some good runs bust marsh was just brilliant

but this debate will never end
