In a balanced and non-sensational article in Standard Simon Johnson states that Fernandes has given Hughes until Christmas. An article that carries the weight and authority that only a semi-official press release can. We must assume this to be true. Johnson goes on to offer 5 pieces of advice all of which most QPR fans would agree with:
Win away from home - it has been 10 months now, Hughes has never done it, the travelling fans have got to be rewarded
Consistent selection - 21 players have so far been given a start, he's got to make his mind up and stick to it
Improve morale - at a low ebb at the moment and not just because of all the loses, no one knowing whether they are in the team or not, fall outs with the manager and then the cold-shoulder, all the players on different pay-structures, too many new players, a cold and distant manager
Tighten at the back - this has got to get better, injuries aside there seems little organisation and game plan, leaving our defenders looking like headless chickens
Improve discipline - what was Diakite doing, having made the same mistake last season, why did he repeat it, why didn't Hughes see it coming.
I would add
Be less of a control freak - Hughes, having surrounded himself by yes-men (Fernandes notwithstanding), Hughes wants to control every aspect of the club. He's got to listen to others, let players breathe and be themselves, let players like Tarrabt express themselves, be less inflexible and if something isn't working in a game then change it. Hughes seems to think it's about him being right, when it's not, it's about the team, Stop blaming bad luck like this is something you can't control. As everyone knows you make your luck, we are simply not making it at the moment. And he's got to lighten up a bit. Man this guy is so po-faced serious. Perhaps if Hughes looked like he was enjoying it more then the players might enjoy it more too. I don't want a change, and I don't want Harry, I want Hughes to take us up the table. Come on Mark, carry on the same and it won't happen, change your attitude, perspective, and style a little and you just might!
