Anyone talking about Dowie, Holloway, Warnock & McCarthy need to realise we are in the Premier League, we have moved on. We need a man who can command respect from Premier League players. My opinion is that Hughes isn't that man either. He commands respect due to the level he played at but he doesn't have an inspirational personality to motivate a dressing room and training ground.

Gary Neville is risky but better than the ones mentioned above because at least with him I, and any fan with common sense, wouldn't KNOW from the off that he would be on a hiding to nothing!

If we really want to move forward we keep the backbone in place - Rigg, Beard etc so that the foundations continue to be built. I do believe that the manager and assistants need changing. Harry is a much better option, as would any other previously successful PREMIER league managers be.

If Harry arrived the first deal would be for a bigger stationery cupboard for all the brown envelopes he'd need... Allegedly.

IF Hughes was to get sacked then the next manager should be told by TF to work with the players he's got and don't make too many new additions and replacements. The only manager I can think of who would do this would be Holloway.

He needs to be a motivator, someone who could come in and instantly lift the players, someone who could give us the 'new manager bounce'. None of this he takes 10 games to get started and then anonther 10-12 games to get started at the beginning of each season. Hughes has been here since Jan and weve still not got started.

hughes biggest problem is he is a bore , imagine having to listen to his dreary voice every day on the training ground . he would not and does not inspire me , i like him to come out in his tv interviews and try and be upbeat not that monotone voice full of excuses , surely he can see he is making bad selection choices . he chose not to buy players in the posistions we needed . why stick with ferdinand and swp they were not up to it last season why think they would get better. he needs to take responsibility for results thats what he is paid a huge salary for .

he had pompey into a decent side and west ham always were a handful...ARRY FOR QPR, he's at most games anyway.
we've had alleged dodgy characters before at qpr going back decades....hurry up arry come on come on
Not a realistic comparison. Do you really think Harry will be given the kind of transfer kitty at Rs that he had at Spurs? Arguably he under-performed with the fortunes he spent. Yes he turned Pompey into a v gd side but drove them to bankruptcy in the process. I'm sure we would be riding high if we signed Defoe etc, but where is the money going to come from. Harry would want another revolution, another revolving door of players and a vast squad and an even bigger coaching staff. Even leaving aside the little matter of who is going to write off the 50/ 100 million this wd require, do you think it is actually what we need? Or are you and lots of other fans just "doing a Briatore", ie lashing out after a defeat without any clear strategy?

I stayed schtum about KJ because I wanted to judge on what actually went on in the market. I've seen enough now, his hands were all over a couple of our many questionable signings.

Harry can win a changing room over and bring people together. Cheaper option: Dowie. A far more tactically astute manager than Hughes with a massively better record at our club, working with budget players.

Party option: Olly. At least the football would be watchable.
                  So no serious alternatives then.

and he is 65....... Hardly a long term strategy......

                            Perfectly put.

I have yet to see anyone calling for Hughes head put forward any kind of serious alternative.

exactly. there was a thread the other day titled "does hughes deserve to keep him job?" or some such. to me it completely missed the point. "deserve" doesn't really come into it. it comes down to whether the chairman still has confidence, whether anyone better could be hired, how much of a transfer budget they would require and whether those funds wd be available, whether mike rigg etc wd be happy to stay, and above all whether all the turmoil wd make our results better or whether it wd actually push us backwards (research shows that sacking the manager tends to result in a temporary improvement quickly followed by a return to the same or worse results).

I'm for giving Hughes time. I accept there are people with different views, but what I find frustrating is how ill-thought out and knee-jerk most of the "sack Hughes" arguments actually are.

This thread was for the Hughes out brigade to set out a reasonable alternative.

Three pages in... noones even come close
