  • The Hughes debate about the kind of club we want...

It sounds dramatic I know... But we have a once in a lifetime chance here to define the long term future of our club.
I cant see another Tony Fernandes type owner coming along who is willing to put in so much investment.

So the questions is what do we want done with this invesment and therefore what kind of club do we want to become.

The first option, which was pursued by the last board, was invest quickly to get quick success. And it worked to an extent in that we were promoted. However when we reached the PL it became clear that we had bascially built a relatively average squad around Adel and it was not going to continue to work without continued big money investment in the short term.

Now this is a path that we could continue to take. Spend lots of money every transfer window and if the manager doesnt get quick results sack him in the hope that someone else will be able to make an immediate impact. This is what seems to be the view of the "Hughes Out" brigade i.e. Hughes spent money. Hughes has failed to perform in the short term. Get someone else in. Spend more money. If we follow that route we will end up as the new Chelsea or the new Portsmouth.

The other option is to take a more long term view. Invest the money in much needed infastructure of the club - from new training ground and stadium to new scout and coach network. And this has already slowly begun. But IT TAKES TIME AND IT TAKES STABILITY. And for stability it requires a a manger to be given time. It requires looking beyond invidual performances and results... which is hard for fans to do.

We are therefore at a crossroads. If we sack Hughs I cant see an manager ever been given enough time to make the changes required. If we keep him we have a decent chance of developing into the kind of club i beleive most QPR fans would like to see. Relatively small but well run and well respected with a good youth system that punches well above its wieght.

So lets take a deep breath and get behind Hughes and the team.

    You Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrs

My sentiments exactly. In a way, we dicided our future when we appointed Hughes. If Hughes leaves,Rigg will leave etc.etc.

        Give Sparky time!!

Sacking a manger every 6 months is not the answer! hughes has got the squad hed like and now he needs time to make it gel! Theres no point hiring and firing all the time. I reckon were be a top 8 team by the end of next season. We have no divine right to beat anyone we have to earn it and we are playing top quality opposition. Hughes will be the man. just need patience

If we long term continued success then we need to stick with Hughes for a long time as he is trying to build a club from the bare fabric that was left into a 1st class system.

This not only takes money but time, if he leaves then so do all the plans built over the last year he has been with us. If you sack Hughes you sack, the coaching staff, scouting teams, youth development e.g. all the personnel he brought in.

People that want Hughes out imo ahve not though about the impact.People seem to forget Sir Alex had rough times before he hit gold, if want the same then we need to build the same.

No, it's got nothing to do with quick results. I couldn't care less if Hughes got us relegated this season as long as if I thought he had a good long-term plan and could eventually make us into a good team. I don't think he can, and that is why I want him out come January. We're lucky to have TF, and now that we have money, I want a good manager to have it to spend and make the most of it.

The difference is that Sir Alex was already a wonderful proven manager, and so you knew he had the potential to change things around. Hughes isn't.

The thing with Hughes is look at his record, I think its now 3 times out of how ever many seasons he has finished outside the top 10, and he has always pushed on the following season, I can't see this being any different to be honest, also with everything that's happening behind the scenes in terms of club infrastructure, we should be backing him to the hilt, which I am

Someone who can think 6 months ahead, not panic buy when the team gets thrashed 5-0 to Swansea.

Well haven't our 'panic' buys worked out to be our best? In terms of Granero and Cesar, bosingwa has looked good and well M'bia played one game so obviously jury is out there
